HADDOCK: FOLLOWING TESTING RULES HURT ME

Terry Haddock is about as frustrated as he’s ever been in drag racing.
haddock.JPG Haddock is discouraged because he’s one of many racers who interpreted the NHRA’s testing limitations as assigned to the driver, car and team. The independent racer, who admittedly competes by racing from-race-to-race, is up in arms about a recent clarification of the testing rules by the NHRA.

Haddock was penalized earlier in the year for a testing violation after participating in two IHRA events.

Haddock currently ranks twelfth in the NHRA Full Throttle Top Fuel points standings, the same position held by Robert Hight in the Funny Car standings, whose fifth test session of the season as a driver has sparked a raging fire of debate. The NHRA agreed with John Force it was within the rules for Hight to test in the No. 7 Castrol Ford normally driven by Force.

MAPLE GROVE STRIP EXTENDED

When the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series arrived at Maple Grove
Raceway this week, it found a significantly longer racetrack.

A total of 300 feet of pavement was added to the end of the dragstrip
over the summer. With a new 250-foot sand trap, the track, from end to
end, is 4,075 feet long. An additional 400 feet is used for runoff.

The $150,000 project was started in June and, despite persistent rainy
weather, was completed in time for the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals.

ANDERSON’S IS "DRIVEN" TO WIN

Greg Anderson has never had to seek motivation when it comes to drag
racing, on or off the track. If he could, Anderson would find

some way to add hours to the clock.

Last weekend’s 58th career victory in Brainerd raised the bar that much higher for Anderson.

“That win in Brainerd gives me a completely new outlook heading into
Reading,” said Anderson. “I know it sounds strange, but I had started
to wonder if I could still get the job done.  In fact, the day after it
happened, I had to check the paper to make sure I actually had won.

“Now that I’ve broken the ice, I’m just going to go out there and have
fun, seeing what I can do to put a few wins together. To be honest, the
next race can’t come soon enough. I’m definitely going to have more
energy going into this weekend than I have had at any other race this
year, and hopefully this Summit Racing team can have a lot more fun.”

JOHNSON LOOKING FOR THIRD

With two races remaining to the Countdown to 1, Allen Johnson has
already doubled his previous year's win total. He has two. Now it's ps_winner.JPGtime to get number three.

A third win, preferable at this weekend’s NHRA Toyo Tires, wouldn’t be a bad addition to a really good season.

“We’re really strong right now,” said Johnson, who lost on a hole shot
in the Brainerd semis to eventual winner Greg Anderson. “I had a little
hiccup this past weekend. I didn’t really have a hiccup; he [Anderson]
had a psychic light. I’ve got to get down to the .20s and .30s on my
lights, and I’m not there yet. I’m still practicing and trying to get
there before the Countdown starts.”

KB FIELDS THIRD CAR IN READING

A third Pro Stock car will run from the Ken Black Racing stable
beginning at this weekend’s NHRA Toyo Tires Nationals in Reading, Pa.

Ronnie Humphrey will pilot a Summit Racing Pontiac fielded earlier in
the season by Jason Line. This is the same ride which carried Line to
wins in Pomona and Gainesville, but was parked when Line switched to a
car run last year by Greg Anderson.

BERNER MAKING STRIDES IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

Pete Berner isn’t one to be passive or take things lightly. So since he
added his own engine program, he’s given it 110%. On paper, it DSA_1045.JPGmay
be hard to see all the advancements Berner and the Quarter-Max.com team
have made this year, but there can be no doubt that many giants have
been conquered behind the scenes. An undiscovered engine problem
hindered progress for the last few events, but now the issue is fixed
and Berner is soon ready to debut a third engine from his program that
promises to be still better than any produced thus far.

“We’ve been battling an issue in the motor since early July,” explains
Berner, “and my focus has been off. Business [Berner’s mechanical
contracting business] is good, but with the current economic state,
it’s tough to take my mind off work and the guys working for me. But
now we have the engine issue covered and I’ve switched my focus back
from business to racing.”

TINDLE STRIVES FOR SUCCESS ON AND OFF TRACK

As a successful business owner, Tim Tindle understands the importance
of delivering total dedication and optimal performance on and Tim_Tindle.jpgoff
the track. With two national event victories in 2009, the Santa Rosa
Beach, Fla. driver has overcame obstacles and challenges to build a
successful and competitive team in the Get Screened America Pro Mod
Challenge presented by ProCare RX.

The Tindle Racing Pro Mod team, led by crew chief Quain Stott, is
continuing to make progress with each lap down the racetrack.  With the
help of sponsors, the team has the resources and power it takes to
reach the top.

Thus far, in 2009, Tindle has marched to victory lane twice, after
winning the IHRA Spring Nationals at Rockingham Dragway during his IHRA
debut and the NHRA Summer Nationals at Topeka.  Tindle credits his
victories to a dedicated team and crew chief that strive for
perfection.

IHRA'S ROD CLASSES PROVING EXTREMELY COMPETITIVE

Of all the categories making up the IHRA’s sportsman ranks, perhaps none has been more competitive this season than those Bogacki.jpgmaking up the Rod classes.

In all 36 different drivers have combined to fill 42 spots with a
potential 66 more positions up for grabs over the next two months.

Among its ranks the Rod categories already have six former world
champions and one former Summit SuperSeries champion who have punched
their ticket to Rockingham, but there is still plenty of time for other
heavy hitters to join the fight.

“We have been absolutely thrilled with the competition we have seen out
of all of our classes this season, but the Rod categories have really
put on a show,” said Skooter Peaco, Vice President of Racing
Operations. “Some of the initial fears of this new format have been
addressed because competitors are not qualifying for the tournament and
then not racing with us anymore. Most of them seem to be actually
running more events and some have qualified multiple times.
