KALIVODA LONGS FOR RETURN

Warning to Larry Dixon: Do not leave Alan Johnson Racing to drive for Brady Kalivoda's team.

Kalivoda doesn't own a team right now. He might one
day. But by his own admission, the former Top Fuel hopeful would be
ill-suited to field a hot rod that someone else got to drive.

"I
would be constantly trying to position myself to get back in the seat.
Larry Dixon would go into the Sani-Can, and I'd run over and duct-tape
it shut and say, 'Gee, I don't know what happened to Larry. But someone
had to drive the car,' " Kalivoda joked on the eve of the NHRA
Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways.

GLIDDEN MAY SIT RICHMOND

xtf_winner.jpgIn
a recent interview with CompetitionPlus.com, ADRL Extreme 10.5
pacesetter Billy Glidden said that if he hopes to keep up with the
current pace of the eliminator that he’s going to have to reinvent
himself. Ever since returning from the recently completed ADRL
Independence Drags in Topeka, Kan., the defending world champion has
been busy doing that.

“Since we returned from Topeka, we’ve barely left out of the shop,”
Glidden admitted. “I have been trying to convince my engines that they
are something they’re not. I know I’m going to tear them up in their
current configuration so I am making gigantic redesign changes to my
engine.”

DENVER, 1000-FT., A YEAR LATER

Many fans have probably already forgotten what happened during the 29th Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere arend.JPGSpeedway.

That event, however, is one of the most memorable of all time.

For the first time, the National Hot Rod Association had both the Top
Fuel Dragster and Top Fuel Funny Cars race to 1000-feet, instead of the
traditional quarter-mile (1,320 feet).

The two classes having been racing to 1,000 feet ever since.

NHRA's actions were brought about as a result of the on-track death of
Scott Kalitta, a two-time NHRA world champion on June 21.

KILLER TIME AGAIN?

In a photo published on ProModifieds.us, apparently Pro Modified
pionner, Lorenzo "Killer" Brooks has stuffed a supercharged engine
between the frame rails of his z-24 Cavalier, the same one he used to
run Pro Mod with in 1990. Brooks was one of the last nitrous stalwarts
from the Class of 1990 to make the switch. He currently competes in
IHRA Top Sportsman.

ASHLEY RETURNS TO SEATTLE AS EXPERIENCED DRIVER IN POINTS LEAD

Ashley Force Hood remembers the out of control feeling she experienced at Pacific Raceways in 2007 as her Castrol GTX Ford

Mustang lurched sideways near mid-track during eliminations. The car
impacted the guardwall, blasted a streak of fire and spun around so
hard that the carbon fiber body flipped off the chassis.  She escaped
from the incident without physical injury. However, she emerged with an
edge in the mental category as a more experienced driver of the 7,000
horsepower Funny Car.

What a difference two years can make.

THE FINE LINE OF CAR WRAPS

Have you ever wondered how “Flip the Dolphin” or “Grizz the Bear” from Frontier Airlines hitch a ride on those johnson.JPGplanes?
A gentleman competing in the Super Gas category this past weekend at the
Mopar Mile High Nationals held in Morrison, Co., had a pretty good hand
in giving these marketable animals their ‘wings’.

Super Gas racer Steve Johnson is the operator of Fineline Graphics. The
Lakewood, Colo.-based company began to apply their quality product on
every Frontier plane in 1995.

When Steve’s not adorning 737 jets with animal graphics, he keeps busy racing in the NHRA’s Super Gas division.
