SUNDAY - MCMILLEN, HAGAN, ANDERSON AND KRAWIEC VICTORIOUS AT NHRA TOYOTA NATIONALS

Top Fuel veteran Terry McMillen piloted his dragster to his first career victory Sunday at the 17th annual NHRA Toyota Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Matt Hagan (Funny Car), Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also earned victories in their respective categories at the fifth of six playoff events during the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Countdown to the Championship.

McMillen raced to his first winner’s circle with a pass of 3.870-seconds at 253.99 in his AMALIE Motor Oil XTERMIGATOR after Brittany Force red-lit in her Monster Energy dragster. He becomes the 104th different Top Fuel winner after 195 career starts.

“This is the stuff you dream of as a small kid,” McMillen stated. “To have that opportunity to go out there and get that win is truly an amazing feeling. Hats off to my crew. This is the first time in a long time where the turn arounds were really quick, and they turned around that car flawlessly. The car was really quick on the starting line, lights were good and it all just fell into place.”

On his way to victory, McMillen defeated Richie Crampton, Clay Millican and Shawn Langdon. Force took down Shawn Reed, Doug Kalitta and Leah Pritchett before entering the finals. She remains second in points overall heading into the final event of the season, trailing leader Steve Torrence by 20 markers.

Hagan powered his Pennzoil Dodge Charger R/T to his first career victory at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway after a run of 3.942 at 329.42 defeating Courtney Force’s 4.020 at 320.05 in her Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro. This is Hagan’s fourth victory of the season and 26th of his career.

“There’s no replacement for the feeling of winning,” Hagan said. “That’s a fix you can’t get nowhere else. My guys busted tail all day. We had a car that went down the track every run we’ve been here. I was just trying not to mess it up.”

His route to victory included win lights against Gary Densham, Del Worsham and teammate Jack Beckman. Force faced Jeff Arend, Alexis DeJoria and category points leader Robert Hight before entering her third final round in the Countdown.

No. 1 qualifier in Pro Stock Anderson, raced his Summit Racing Equipment Chevrolet Camaro to victory for the fourth time this season with a pass of 6.698 at 204.70 defeating KB Racing teammate Bo Butner. Anderson secured his fifth career victory at this event and 90th of his career.

Category points leader Anderson sits 40 points ahead of teammate and defending world champion Jason Line. Butner rounds out the top three.

“The ultimate scenario for us at KB Racing was to eliminate the Gray team over there,” Anderson said. “Didn’t think it would happen because they are great race car drivers, but somehow we found a way and we outlasted them today. They’re now not a part of the equation when we go to Pomona. Now we’re just going to have to go out there and settle it among ourselves.”

Anderson raced Alan Prusiensky, Chris McGaha and Line on the way to his 11th final around appearance this season. Butner bested Shane Tucker, Alan Johnson and Drew Skillman before losing to Anderson.

In Pro Stock Motorcycle, category points leader Krawiec rode his Screamin’ Eagle Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson to a 6.924 at 193.16 defeating Hector Arana Jr. This is his third career victory at this event, seventh of the season and 43rd of his career.

“My motorcycle has been a pleasure to ride,” Krawiec stated. “I’ve got a great group of guys behind me. That make tune-up calls and make the bike as good as it is. By no means is it just one person. It’s really about the whole crew that those guys do for me and give me the opportunity to have a bike that can win a race is really something special.”

Krawiec’s road to victory was lined with wins over John Hall, Angelle Sampey and Scotty Pollacheck. The win puts him 150 points ahead of LE Tonglet who remains second. Arana Jr. rode past Katie Sullivan, Mike Berry and Tonglet.

The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series concludes at the final event of the season at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, Nov. 9-12, with the 53rd annual Auto Club NHRA Finals.

SATURDAY - SCHUMACHER, BECKMAN, ANDERSON AND KRAWIEC CLENCH NO. 1 QUALIFYING POSITIONS AT LAS VEGAS

Jack Beckman set both ends of the track record for the Funny Car class during the final qualifying session to secure the No. 1 position at the 17th annual NHRA Toyota Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Tony Schumacher (Top Fuel), Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also clenched No. 1 qualifiers in their respective categories at the fifth of six events on the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Countdown to the Championship.

Beckman’s pass of 3.854-seconds at 335.57 mph in his Infinite Hero Foundation Dodge Charger R/T clenched his first No. 1 qualifier of the season and 22nd of his career. He is seeking his third season victory and 27th of his career tomorrow.

“I think we’ve got a great hot rod right now,” Beckman stated. “It’s always nice before eliminations to eat a little bit at the lead of the car ahead of you and to put a little bit of distance to the ones behind you. I told my team to go 3.85 would be fun and they were right.”

Beckman will race Jim Campbell to open eliminations on Sunday. Following in the No. 2 spot is Courtney Force in her Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro with a pass of 3.878 at 331.77. She will race Jeff Arend. Category points leader Robert Hight qualified third and will face Tim Wilkerson in the opening round.

The winningest Top Fuel driver, Tony Schumacher, locked-in the No. 1 spot after piloting his U.S. Army dragster to a set the track elapsed-time record of 3.673 at 332.67 during Friday’s qualifying session to earn him his fourth No. 1 qualifier of the season and 84th of his career.

“We’ve got the points, we made a good run and that really gives me the confidence,” Schumacher explained. “The crew chiefs are making call and the car is reacting. That is more important than the numbers and where you qualify. We need to go out there and win that trophy.”

Schumacher will face off against Troy Buff in round one. Points leader Steve Torrence qualified in the No. 2 spot with a run of 3.694 at 330.15 in his Capco Contractors dragster and he will meet Terry Haddock at the line.

Pro Stock points leader, Anderson raced a 6.663 at 205.35 in his Summit Racing Equipment Chevrolet Camaro during Friday evenings qualifying session to secure his fifth No. 1 qualifier of the season and 92nd of his career.

“It’s fun to be here in Vegas when you look and both sides of the grandstands are full,” Anderson said. “We’re having fun and having a good time. Las Vegas is my team owner’s home track and it just means a whole lot more to me. I’ve had a lot of special weekends here and look forward to making another one.”

Anderson will line up against Alan Prusiensky to begin eliminations. Drew Skillman qualified in the No. 2 spot with a 6.664 at 205.32 in his Ray Skillman Chevrolet Camaro and will take on Deric Kramer.

Krawiec, the Pro Stock Motorcycle points leader, secured his fifth No. 1 qualifier of the season and 38th of his career with his 6.936 at 191.76 from the second round of qualifying on Friday on his Screamin’ Eagle Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson.

“I’m happy with how the bike is performing,” Krawiec stated. “I just need to go out there and stay focused and race. We need to turn on those win lights since that’s what gets you points. That is all I’m concerned about right now at this point.”

Krawiec will face John Hall in the first round. Hector Arana Jr. is in the second spot with a 6.940 at 191.87 on his Lucas Oil Buell and will line up against Katie Sullivan. LE Tonglet is third on his Nitro Fish Racing Suzuki.

FRIDAY - SCHUMACHER, BECKMAN, ANDERSON AND KRAWIEC LEAD QUALIFYING AT NHRA TOYOTA NATIONALS

Tony Schumacher, eight-time world champion, piloted his Top Fuel dragster to the top of the class Friday at 17th annual NHRA Toyota Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Jack Beckman (Funny Car), Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) were also provisional No. 1 qualifiers in their respective categories at the fifth of six events in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Countdown to the Championship.

Schumacher raced a track elapsed-time record of 3.673-seconds at 332.67 mph in his U.S. Army dragster. He is in hot pursuit of his fourth No. 1 qualifier of the season and 84th of his career. Schumacher has the most Top Fuel victories at this track with eight wins on his resume.

“We’ve won this race a lot of times and we probably have more data than anyone at this race track,” Schumacher said. “We have a good quality map to look at and we know what to do here. It’s hard to run great here, yet we go out and do it.”

Points leaders Steve Torrence is in second with his 3.694 at 330.15 in his Capco Contractors/Torrence Racing dragster. Shawn Langdon currently holds the third spot.

Beckman powered his Infinite Hero Foundation Dodge Charger R/T to a 3.867 pass at 329.50 to take the preliminary lead in the Funny Car category. Beckman moved to the top of the order early in the second qualifying session.

“The problem with running good early is that the track is going to continue to cool down,” Beckman stated. “It’s going to get better and they just saw what the track is capable of. Everybody else is smart enough to go back and give it a little more clutch. To watch it stand for the rest of the Funny Cars surprised me.”

Courtney Force follows right behind him in second after racing her Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro to a 3.878 at 331.77 and teammate and leading Funny Car championship contender Robert Hight currently holds the third position.

Points leader Anderson raced to a 6.663 at 204.73 in his Summit Racing Equipment Chevrolet Camaro during Friday’s final qualifying round to sit atop of the Pro Stock ladder.

“We stepped on them tonight,” said Anderson. “Tonight, the sun went down, and we got after them. We knew the track would tighten up and we went for it. That’s what you do on Friday night qualifying. If you want the pole you’ve got to be bold.”

Drew Skillman is currently in the second spot with a 6.664 at 205.32 in his Ray Skillman Chevrolet Camaro and Bo Butner is in the third slot.

In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Krawiec currently leads the class in points and in qualifying with a 6.936 pass at 191.76 on his Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson from the evening qualifying session.

“I’ve got a great motorcycle under me and a great team behind me,” Krawiec stated. “I think there’s a good potential for people to go faster tomorrow though. You need to have your stuff together coming out of here and be on your game.”

Hector Arana Jr. is in the No. 2 spot with a 6.940 pass at 192.55 on his Lucas Oil Buell and Andrew Hines rounds out the top three.
