THROWDOWN AT T-TOWN - TULSA EVENT NOTEBOOK

Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park yet again packed the facility with drag racing fans eager for action and they surely weren't disappointed. A pit area full of racecars atop the many additional entertainment options available at the track over the weekend kept the fans involved. Congratulations to Todd Martin, Keith Haney, Big Don Ellison and the rest of the TRP staff for another successful Throwdown In T-Town.

Outlaw Pro Mod:

Local hitter Brandon Lewis has driven many types of drag racing machines over the years, but recently is enjoying his time behind the wheel of this "Bad Ass 57" screw blown entry. Lewis clicked off a stellear 3.67 at 209 mph to steal the top qualifying position from Frankie Taylor. In second round, Lewis met his match against Jon Stouffer in a great drag race. Stouffer's 3.67 at 205 took out Lewis' close 3.73 at 207 mph.
Randell Reid qualified number two with a 3.68 at 211 mph in his 2007 Corvette Outlaw Pro Mod. Reid stepped up to a 3.63 to get past first round but was no match for Frankie Taylor in round two as Taylor's 3.58 advanced to the finals.
Sneaking in at the number eight qualifying position, Rusty Beaver's 1957 Chevy qualified with a 4.25 but found an early exit in round one against Brandon Lewis.
Stan Smith has a stunning 2014 Corvette but had nothing but problems at the Throwdown in T-Town. As an alternate, Smith was inserted in to the Outlaw Doorslammer field with other cars that missed the cut in their respective classes, creating a very fun contingent for those outside the qualified fields in doorslammer class action.
Frankie "The Mad Man" Taylor claimed his fourth Throwdown In T-Town victory defeating Jon Stouffer in the final round. Taylor posted low elapsed time of the event with a 3.58 in the semi-finals and used a 3.59 at 211 mph to take the win over Stouffer's 3.68 at 206 mph. Taylor and company will be all smiles on their trip home to Dickinson, Texas.

Pro Nitrous / Pro Boost:

Bob Storie qualified fifth in Pro Nitrous/Pro Boost in his blown 1963 Corvette Pro Mod. In the biggest upset of first round, Storie lost the blower belt near the finish line and coasted to a 4.15 at 147 mph, but was able to hold off Todd Martin's much quicker 3.99 at 182 mph. Storie was unable to make the call for his round two match up with Keith Haney.
James "Doc" Love had the famed "Street Beast" in the house looking for action on the strip as opposed to his normal setting on Street Outlaws. Love's best of a 4.39 missed the cut in Pro Nitrous/Pro Boost, but Love went a round in the Outlaw Doorslammer category and spent time with a huge flock of fans gathered in his pit for autographs and photos.
Friday night Jeffrey Cummins blew the scoop off his 1967 GT500, but was able to repair the damage and strive ahead in search of victory in Tulsa. Cummins clicked off a 4.01 at 178 to take out Kayla Morton in round one and met Ron Muenks in second round.  A -.005 red light ended his weekend when his quicker 3.86 at 188 lost to Muenk's very close 3.88 at 196 mph.
Keith "You Know My Name" Haney led the field into eliminations with a 3.78 at 200 mph and charged into the final round to face Ron Muenks. In a great side by side drag race, Haney's .043 reaction time to Muenks' .021 told the story as Muenks took the win on a hole shot with a 3.82 to Haney's quicker 3.81.
Richard Stafford qualified seventh in Pro Nitrous/Pro Boost in his 1968 Camaro from Jefferson City, Missouri. Stafford's 4.26 at 166 mph came up short in his first round bout with Ron Muenks.
Ron Muenks will head home to Strafford, Missouri a happy camper after a very successful outing at the Throwdown In T-Town. After qualifying second, Muenks and company ripped through the field and used a hole shot in the final round to defeat Keith Haney and claim victory under the lights at Tulsa.

Outlaw Doorslammer:

Lone time Pro Mod racer Bobby Booth made a surprise appearance in Tulsa and lost first round of Outlaw Doorslammer to Jim Sachuvich.
Jim Sachuvich of Raymore, Missouri struggled mightily in Pro Nitrous action, missing the quick eight field, earning him a spot in Outlaw Doorslammer. Sachuvich took the win in Outlaw Doorslammer after his opponent was unable to make the call.  They never said you have to be good to win, but sometimes just lucky!

ProStreet:

Mike Bradley qualified fourth in Pro Street with a 5.00 at 136 in his 1969 Chevy Camaro from Rogersville, Missouri. Bradley advanced to the semi-finals before falling to eventual event winner Tony Foulks.
Joseph Bouska of Wellston, Oklahoma rounded out the seven car field in Pro Street with a 5.61, but slid past number two qualifier Bobby Kruck in the first round. In semi-final action, Bouska's 5.04 fell to Jackie Knox's 4.70.

Jackie Knox met Tony Foulks in the final round of Pro Street but was unable to fire the car in the water box and had no option but to watch Foulks solo to victory. Knox and "The Sonoma" made famous on Street Outlaws made several strong runs over the weekend and will likely be seen in future no prep and outlaw races this year.
Tony Foulks dominated Pro Street in his 1970 Camaro from Perkins, Oklahoma. Foulks was top qualifier and lived in the 4.20's all weekend, marching into the final and claimed victory on a competition bye run

Radial Vs The World:

Scott Lowery's 4.13 at 200 mph was top qualifier in Radial Vs The World class action and Lowery met Craig Ondrick in the final round. Lowery's number might have been up, but a -.009 red light for Ondrick wasted his quicker 4.38 at 169 as Lowery's 4.41 at 145 mph took the win in Tulsa.
Kyle Bruce barely made the cut, qualifying eighth in Radial Vs The World with a 5.64 in his 1996 Corvette from Broken Arrow, OK. Bruce fell in round one to Craig Ondrick.
Brendan Russell's 1978 Chevy Malibu qualified seventh with a 4.84 and in first round took out Larry Wright, before falling to Craig Ondrick in round two action.
Craig Ondrick wheeled his beautiful 1968 Firebird to the number three qualifying spot with a 4.37 at 176 and marched into the finals to take on top qualifier Scott Lowery. X275:

Zack Wiedel's 1965 Chevy Nova claimed the number three qualifying position in X275 with a 4.80 at 146 mph. Wiedel fell in first round to eventual event winner Barry Bruke.
Bob Bales can be found at every X275 event held in the southwest and qualified number one with a 4.61 at 154 mph. Bales marched into the finals to take on Barry Burke, but a mechanical gremlin kept him from firing for the final as Burke took the win.
Barry Burke's 1972 Chevy Nova qualified fourth ith a 4.80 and took out Zack Wiedel and Marty Chance to move into the final round against Bob Bales. Bales' mechanical issues sealed the deal for Burke as he soloed into the winners circle in X275 at Tulsa.

MX235:

Danny Andrews from Willow Springs, Missouri danced with Terry Foster in the final round of MX235 action. Andrews' 5.32 at 134 was plenty in the final as Foster fell off pace and Andrews wheeled his clean 1967 Camaro to the winners circle at the Throwdown In T-Town.
Terry Foster took the top qualifying position in MX235 with a 5.64 at 126 and marched into the final round to do battle with Danny Andrews. Foster struggled to a 7.26 in the final and settled for a runner up finish in Tulsa.

Limited 275:
