ANOTHER FEMALE FUNNY CAR DRIVER?

A source has told CompetitionPlus.com that a third Funny Car driver may soon work her way into the mix with Ashley Force and Melanie Troxel. We are told former jet car pilot and recently licensed Top Fuel driver Jessie Harris is at the top of short list of drivers being considered to replace Jim Head behind the wheel of his Toyota Funny Car.

GANASSI-PRUDHOMME BACK ON?

It’s no secret that legendary drag racing team owner Don “the Snake” Prudhomme
has a cordial relationship with Chip Ganassi, who currently fields teams in
NASCAR, the IndyCar series and the Grand-Am sports car series. Fresh rumors are
now circulating that Ganassi not only likes drag racing, but reportedly believes
his involvement in the quarter mile sport could be mutually beneficial. He
recently called drag racing “a lot of fun,” but that doesn’t mean there’s an
imminent “deal” between the two in the works.

JOHNNY WEST TO DSR?

Watch for talented nitro tuner Johnny West to soon join Don Schumacher Racing. A reliable source tells Torco's CompetitionPlus.com he will be replacing Rick Cassell as the lead tuner on the the Jack Beckman Valvoline team.

RICHIE STEVENS ON NITRO?

Past Pro Stock standout Richie Stevens was in Commerce, Georiga during the NHRA Southern Nationals beating the bushes and according to a prominent source, he could be headed the nitro route. Our source tells us the Louisiana-based driver will be going for his nitro Funny Car license before the season is complete.

THE REAL NITRO PROBLEM

This weekend's flap may have been just the tip of the iceberg of forthcoming problems related to nitromethane. Reportedly, the idea of an armed guard attending the nitro supplies was scrapped after the Gainesville event thus removing one of the largest stated factors in the price increase for the weekend. Believe what you want, but solid sources have confirmed the sport's nitro supply is in serious jeopardy.

WHO'S COMING BACK?

You know those Funny Car drivers, just can't keep them away. What past NHRA U.S. Nationals Funny Car champion is already planning a return to the cockpit this season, even if only for a limited return engagement?

A GEAR-JAMMING COMEBACK?

Torco's CompetitionPlus.com has learned that a group is working to develop a new style of drag racing which will cater to those diehard fans of the old Modified class. A source has told us this style of racing will be created with the intention of being adopted by local tracks throughout the country to run on a once-a-month basis.

A NASCAR CONNECTION COMING?

Word has it to watch for a prominent NASCAR racer and championship team owner discussing his possible foray into NHRA POWERade Top Fuel drag racing as a team owner/partner this weekend on the ESPN2 telecast. This is reportedly the program associated with Bob Vandergriff, Jr.

TRICKING THE TRUCK?

A source close to the situation tells Torco's CompetitionPlus.com that IHRA Top Fuel racer Terry McMillen could soon be featured on CMT's Trick My Truck program. This may not be just a one-shot deal. We're hearing there may be multiple appearances.

HOGAN'S NEXT GIG?

Richard Hogan, formerly with Morgan Lucas Racing, may be giving the drag racing community a sneak peek where his next gig will be. Throughout the O'Reilly Springnationals in Houston, Texas, the veteran tuner spent much of his time hanging out with the Oberhofer Brothers and Kalitta Motorsports. Torco's CompetitionPlus.com has learned Hogan has discussed positions with other teams but likely the Kalitta gang seem to have the inside track.
