This documentary is the perfect way to spend your time, thinking back to the days of yesteryear when drag racing had the wow power because it was still a virtually unknown commodity.
The legends were very much involved in 1979, from Don Prudhomme to Don Garlits to Shirley Muldowney. Drag racing was still wide enough open to command an audience for such a documentary which would usually air in the afternoons on weekend when three channel, black and white television were still in the majority.
This video has a little bit of everything from NHRA to AHRA, Top Fuel to Funny Car to Pro Stock. If you can excuse the audio sounds of big block automatic cars on obvious four-speed Modifieds, you will enjoy this class.

The NHRA's annual visit to the Bayou in Louisiana was one always race fans could count on for entertainment. Whether it was its colorful promoter Norman "Moose" Pearah or Funny Cars staging a boycott, the 1983 edition didn't disappoint nor did it keep folks from starting a ruckus.
One of the sport's more prominent two-car teams had a plan. One team was to be a part-time effort, and the other would be a championship-chasing monster. However, the "extra" car outperformed its role and when the two met in the final; well, things didn't go as planned. We won't spoil it for you.
You'll see the legends of the day including defending Top Fuel champion Shirley Muldowney, Gary Beck, and an up-and-coming Mark Oswald.

Travel back in time to a race track located 30 miles outside of Joliet, Illinois, where match racing was king.
US 30 Drag Strip in Gary, Indiana was an experience indeed, with the grandstands and the pits more entertaining with its betting and fanfare than anything else.
"It was probably more dangerous outside of the car than inside," Top Fuel racer Luigi Novelli said with a laugh. "There was a lot of betting going on there. There was some bullets flying from time to time too."

Travel back in time when the dragster would slingshot down the strip with the engines in the front, Funny Cars were still in Competition Eliminator and the Super Stocks were as the true factory hot rods.

Many historians consider the 1966 Bakersfield Fuel & Gas Championships one of the best "March Meet" events at the iconic drag strip. Though this video only shows the highlights of the revered event, it was the last 64-car show the event fielded. Iconic drag racers like Mike Sorokin behind the wheel of The Surfers dragster, James Warren in the Warren-Coburn rail, and even a cameo from Stone-Woods_Cook gasser make this video a must-watch.
The cherry on the top of this treat? Keith Jackson narrates the iconic race video.

They were once a group of old Modified Eliminator racers who traded in their small blocks, Doug Nash transmissions, and 50-pound flywheels for large displacement engines and Lencos. They traded the rigid confines of class racing for the outlaw arena of high-speed bracket racing. But they wanted more.
Then a group of Pro Stock racers, who had grown weary of fighting the relentless fight in high dollar professional drag racing, decided to put nitrous oxide on their racecars and let them "eat."
