FEEDBACK FRIDAY – THE IHRA COMMUNITY WEIGHS IN ON THE 2010 RACE FORMAT

FEEDBACK ARTICLE: THE IHRA COMMUNITY WEIGHS IN ON THE 2010 RACE FORMAT

“I think it will be a great show for the novice spectator. The purist race spectators will have to take some time to warm up to it. From a novice fan that hears it advertised on the radio and wants to see fast cars and a lot of noise, they’ll be entertained with. For the purist, I just don’t know how they’re going to take it. We’ll develop a new audience. The diehard fans are not going to have a lot of enthusiasm. The average one-to-two race a year fan that doesn’t follow the sport will be entertained.”

Who do they think is effected by the economy? Are they stupid?

Do they even know or studied there customer base?

The Novice spectator are the very people not coming to the track. In this economy do you think the novise is going to spend the money?  Come on guys, this is not rocket ecomonics.

You making changes to cut cost for the novice spectator, the very spectator that will have no money and will not attend. Those very spectators will spend their hard money somewhere else. And in the process you totally destroy your fan base. The ones who make
sacrifices to make sure this is the one part of there life they will not miss.

JUST HOW STUPID CAN YOU GET?????????????

NASCAR has seen the same mistake. changes over the years have made their original fan base mad as hell. Now they want them back. Because the fair weather novice fans spend their money on something else.

But what do I know?

I know what drag races will not see my money!

I'm a fan, a doorslammer fan. The very roots of what IHRA has been about. THE VERY FOUNDATION! - Al Smith

11-16-2009

As someone who has attended most of the IHRA events here (Edmonton), it appears I'll stay home from what will be in 2010, pretty much the same as a glorified Monster Truck 'show' and spend my money for  plane tickets going to watch Pro Stock and Fuel Funny Car COMPETITIONS in Vegas & Seattle.

IHRA, RIP. - Ron Pohl

The announcement of the total revamping of the IHRA for 2010 can be best summed up by Aaron Polburn's answer to a question posed by DRM (the in-house organ of IHRA). When asked where Feld Entertainment stood with IHRA, the answer was "I met with Mr. Feld not too long ago and he said he has a hard time understanding this business...."

That pretty much sums up where this "association" and their owners are heading: no understanding of how drag racing works and in the end - no hope of making it work.

RIP IHRA (1971-2010) - Bob Wilson

After being a loyal drag racing fan of IHRA and having attended every session of the Rocky Mountain Nationals since it came to Edmonton, I  do not have the words to express my disappointment in what IHRA has planned for next year. They must be nuts to think people want to see a zoo or a circus instead of Pro Mod and Pro Stock. Guess where I won't be spending my racing dollars next year. - Darryl Michaud

At least IHRA has made it clear that this is entertainment not to be confused with drag racing. The Outlaw Fuel altered running in the Texas used a similar
"Chicago" format and it was very entertaining.

I would suggest that IHRA make one additional change and inaugurate some heads up no throttle stop index racing. They needn't eliminate the Rod classes but people they are trying to cater to will not understand the .90 racing. They will also probably need the car count. - Jim Croyle

The new IHRA format is the most rediculous thing I have ever heard . It is not racing plain and simple. Drag Racing is being destroyed by people that simply have no clue.It will be interesting to see how many racers are willing to go along with this circus act! - John Dougherty

I to think next years new format will be the end of the IHRA.It sounds like the WWE traveling around the country putting on a staged show. And their relying on a 8 car Top fuel field to be the cornerstone .Lets face it out of the 8 maybe 3 will be capable of winning. And no Pro Stock or Pro Mod thats the best part of IHRA without that forget it .I personaly don't want to see 32 cars with stutter boxes on them.I think its time for Aaron Polburn and Scooter Peaco to hit the road. - Dennis Lowder

I've raced IHRA for 20 years and the thought of a none qualified feld for Pro Stock and Pro Mod won,t even seem like a drag race, just a booked in show. I saw monster trucks once and never went back. If IHRA wants to turn into a monster truck show, maybe it's time for another sport. - Dave Rice

I think that Mr Trussell is right. They crapped on those racers who have supported them. I went out and purchased both cars and all parts from Mark
Thomas, thinking there would be a class. Instead I got a call asking me if I would sponsor 1 race and get others to sponsor other races for our class TA/FC.

I could not believe I was asked that. We spent this season racing in the NHRA, sure it was a little more expensive to race there but let me tell you, it was a
class act operation all the way. I never wanted to leave the IHRA because to me it was a family like feeling there, but after racing in the NHRA
for 1 season I finally realized the NHRA is truly a family. We got bets going on around here that next year if they make it that far will be the present
groups last year in operation. I have such a sick feeling in my stomach, because they disapointed a lot of good people and hardcore racers. - Spiro Kontos

I send this after reading this news with pure disgust..I personally know Royce, having raced at his facility(growing up in the area)and knowing and racing with Frank Gugliotta and Robert Patrick..et.al..It harkens back to the wonderful days when Billy Myer screwed the whole thing up, and ruined it for the sportsman guys..I propose, if Royce is so hip, ask him if he would be willing to give back his championships from the 80's in support of this BS...They now, overnight-have given the wonderful Glendora geeks another idea(just like when they stole "big inch" Pro Stock and Pro Modified)..This organization will not get another dime of my hard earned cash, and as I see it NHRA will follow suit, so that way we can just see John Force 24-7, and maybe he and some of the IHRA circus can jump into a cage match on the Starting line of Rockingham on Saturday, and blow up the road to Bruton's Folly in Charlotte for Sunday, and race NASCAR cup Cars 10 wide on a 4 lane racetrack while The Fire Breathing Truckasaurus Eats the sportsman cars ... if you have a $80 Reserved Seat Standing room only ticket, where you can not even stand on the fence .. .screw all of this, NHRA-IHRA, now there is no difference ... now I see why all of my friends with Top Sportsman cars quit. Former Bracket Racer, wanted to run Stock but glad I didn't spend the money for
this crap. - Gordon Moore

I think  the format change is great, now we can all move to ADRL WHERE WE WILL TRULY BE LOVED AND  HAPPY. ADRL is where it at they put on a great show and the fans bring a lot of energy to the track. GOODBYE IHRA. - Michael Mingo

When did we lose touch with racing. IHRA, NHRA NASCAR it's all a traveling circus. I can't even watch it on TV without it being a Freak Show. I really should thank these organiztions because attendance at all or local ovals is up. Go ahead and screw it up. The racers will find racing. - Bob Afflerback

Do people come to the races to be entertained? , yes. To the spectators is it entertainment? , Yes . But first and foremost there is a reason it is called
Drag RACING and thats because first and foremost it is racing , and I think people need to remember that , sure you can put on a show and entertain but that shouldnt get in the way of the racing to those guys who go to the line and sit in their cars they are there to compete to win to beat the other guy(or girl). - William Payne
