Raymond Commisso may not of have won Sunday's  Get Screened America Pro Mod Series event at the NHRA SuperNationals, but there weren't many people happier than Commisso at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

The Canadian restaurateur reached the semifinals in his R2B2 Motors Camaro after not racing for more than a month while tending to family matters following the death of his father. He said getting back in his racecar and running well was just the tonic he needed.

"This was a great weekend," Commisso said. "For me this was my first race of the year. The way I'm feeling after what we just did, it's like a fresh start. I feel like I wasn't even at those other races."

In the semis, Commisso faced off against points leader Von Smith. Smith got a sizable jump at the starting line and never looked back, racing to a 5.925-second pass at 245.85 mph. Commisso crossed the line with a competitive but losing 5.966 at 244.92 mph.

"If I have to lose, I want to lose to the faster car," Commisso said. "I don't want to lose because I messed up or something broke on the car. It's a drag race, it happens. We'll get them next time."

The second round of racing started early Sunday afternoon with Commisso dispatching Pat Musi with relative ease. Commisso gave up .009 seconds at the starting line but rocketed to a 6.009-second pass at 244.96 mph in hot, greasy conditions. Musi crossed the line in 6.039 at 238.85 mph.

Commisso added that his crew is working in perfect sync and that he can't to get to next week's race in Bristol, Tenn., the second of three straight races for the Get Screened America Pro Mod Series.

"The racecar is in one piece and it ran good," Commisso said. "Nobody outran our qualifying run. I've been to two finals in Bristol and never sealed the deal there. Hopefully I can take the win home there for my dad.

"We don't quit at R2B2 Racing. We've got the best of the best over here -- tuners, crew chiefs, crew guys and equipment. I couldn't ask for anything better and it feels good to be back."
