Qualifying for the Holley Hot Rod Reunion came to a thrilling conclusion on Friday afternoon with Dan Horan, Jr. (Top Fuel) and Levi Keenan (Funny Car) setting the pace for Saturday's final eliminations at Beech Bend International Raceway in Bowling Green, Ky.
Horan set the pace for the front-engine dragsters early, and his 5.701 elapsed time held up for three sessions. Jimi Young was second quickest with a 5.781, while Jim Murphy was third, recording a 5.795. Adam Sorokin rounded out the top half of the field with a 5.822.
John Lorbiecki anchored the field with a 6.069.
Saturday's first-round pairings will see Horan meeting John Lorbiecki, Murphy racing Garry Wheeling Jr., Young races John Lorbiecki, and third-gen drag racer Tyler Hilton matching up against Mike Taylor.
Keenan, just like Horan, set the pace on Thursday as he drove his Plymouth Arrow to the low elapsed time with a 6.132 to finish ahead of Eric Stevens and John Smith.
Michael Roppo was the top runner in Nostalgia Pro Stock, as he drove his classic Pontiac Firebird to a 7.736 to edge out the 1981 Camaro of Mark Pappas.
Other top qualifiers included Garry Wheeler Jr. (6.0 PRO), Billy Smith (7.0 PRO), Justin Shaffer (7.5 PRO), Bryan Lawrence (Modified), Donnie Vaught (Modified Production), Dale Wolford (Nostalgia Super Stock), Terry Tyler (Hot Rod), Ed Kasicki (Scott Rods), Dan Tachett (Geezer Gassers), Bob Mitchell (Gas).
