CORY LEE DRIVING McGAFFIC'S FUNNY CAR IN ROCKINGHAM

Former Funny Car driving veteran turned nostalgia flopper tuner Cory Lee wouldn’t mind batting 1.000 this weekend at the IHRA Spring Nationals in Rockingham, North Carolina. He could very well pull off the feat this weekend.

Former Funny Car driving veteran turned nostalgia flopper tuner Cory Lee wouldn’t mind batting 1.000 this weekend at the IHRA Spring Nationals in Rockingham, North Carolina. He could very well pull off the feat this weekend.

Jeff and Bonnie McGaffic re-enlisted Lee to pilot their Metalwood Bat-sponsored Monte Carlo nitro Funny Car and consider last season’s runner-up finish in Rockingham.

“I have three career runner-up finishes at National events, now it’s time for a big win,” Lee said. “With tuning help from Jimbo Ermalovich at this event, we’ve got a great shot at the winners circle.”

Ermalovich returns to IHRA competition for the first time since tuning Scotty Cannon to two Top Fuel event wins in 2007.

Lee has kept busy during the driving downtime by tuning Gary Turner’s “Pedaler”, a ’77 Plymouth Arrow-bodied nitro AA/FC.  As a crew chief Lee has tuned driver Kris Krabill to back-to-back wins at the legendary 50th March Meet at Southern California’s Auto Club Famoso Raceway and took home the trophy and cash at the 27th annual Funny Car Fever over the past weekend at Sacramento Raceway, defeating Bucky Austin in the final.

The McGaffics are owners of Vista Manufacturing, a metal products fabrication company in the Pittsburgh, PA area.  They field their Monte Carlo nitro funny car with help from associate sponsors Perryman Company, Kimberly Clark Products, Permatex, Red Line Oil and M&R Safety Products.
