When the 3rd round of qualifying kicked the track temperature had dropped and so did the e.t.’s. The track was in good shape and so was the air. When Dennis pulled to the staging lanes no one knew what getting ready to happen. Don Brown then guided his driver through the burnout box and then let him know when to heat up the tires on the back of the Executioner. After the burnout Dennis backed up and put the Corvette in the beams. The tree activated and Dennis then laid down the pass of the night, a 3.979 at 183.05. The incrementals were, 1.003 sixty foot, 2.632 half track and a 3.979 at the 660 mark with a speed of 183.05 mph.

Orangeburg_ORSCA_Originals_221.jpgDennis had a bye round in the first round of eliminations. He could have just motored down the track but that wouldn’t do for Dennis and Don. Instead they posted another 4.0 pass stopping the clocks with a 4.062 at 180.99. The 2nd round the opponent setting the other lane Ronnie "the King" Davis. Dennis led this one from start to finish. He cut a .078 light to Ronnie’s .112. Ronnie ended up running into tire shake while Dennis posted a 4.052 at 179.92.

The semifinal round Mike "the Hit Man" Hill had the tough task of taking on Dennis. Mike has steadily improved but he just didn’t have enough. Mike did get off the first but that lead didn’t last long. Mike just like Ronnie Davis ran into tire shake while Dennis show just how consistent that they were running a 4.064 at 179.92.

The final round was set, the fastest cars on the grounds were going to settle it. Steve Kirk had put a 4.04 in qualifying. Steve had his Nitrous assisted Corvette running like a bracket car all day steadily running 4.10's. He knew he had to tune it up though and that didn’t work out for him. The two left virtually together but Steve’s Corvette hazed the tires and went into tire shake and Dennis went a to b running a 4.048 at 181.38.
