AUSSIE TOP FUEL ROOKIE SHANE OLIVE IS PRIMED FOR A BREAKOUT WIN AT SYDNEY DRAGWAY

Shane Olive, who made his debut this season with Lamattina Top Fuel Racing alongside team owner-driver Phil Lamattina, will be chasing his first podium at round four of the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship at Sydney Dragway, May 6-7.

Olive landed the plum ride with LTFR after a successful career in Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars.

His best result came in round two, where he downed three-time Oz champ Phil Read and set a new eighth-mile track record of 3.17, 265 mph.

"It's been a massive challenge and also an exciting experience to put together a whole new Top Fuel team," said Olive. "We started slowly and have been getting better as the season has progressed.”

All three winners this season have claimed victory at their home track. Phil Read won the season's opening round at Sydney Dragway, followed by Phil Lamattina at Sunset Strip in Mildura and then Damien Harris at the Perth Motorplex.

“This weekend, Wayne Newby, Peter Xiberras and I are chasing our first win of the year at Sydney Dragway, which also happens to be the home track for all of us.”

"I feel we're ready for a win and to do it at Sydney this weekend is the goal."

Round four of the ATFC will be critical to the title aspirations of series leader Phil Lamattina chasing his first TF title since 2014.

The "Carrot King" holds a slender 15-point lead over reigning champ Peter Xiberras.

Veteran Phil Read trails Xiberras by 25 points and will be aiming to replicate his early-season form, highlighted by a stirring win over Xiberras in round one.

Rapisarda Autosport International pair Damien Harris and Wayne Newby began their 2022 campaign slowly but have emerged as championship contenders after finishing first and third in round three at the Perth Motorplex last month.

The only competitor in Top Bike to have raced at all three rounds, Chris Matheson has an almost unassailable 120 points lead over his nearest rival, Robert Cassar.

The amiable Queenslander will focus his attention on becoming the first Aussie to crack the last frontier in the two-wheeled category - running under the six-second barrier.

Matheson has come agonizingly close on several occasions, most recently at the Perth round. He posted a pair of 6.00 second runs that included a new track and National record.

Pro Slammer, Pro Mod and Pro Stock will appear as exhibition classes at the event.
