AUSSIE TOP FUEL SERIES SCORES A MAJOR SPONSOR FOR 2022 AND REVEALS A BREAKOUT TV DEAL.
One of the major players in the Australian automotive industry, Burson Auto Parts, has signed a two-year deal as the naming right sponsor for the Australian Top Fuel Championship starting at Sydney Dragway, January 21-22, 2022.
Burson Auto Parts has around 200 retail stores across Australia servicing the automotive aftermarket trade.
“We are very excited to partner with the pinnacle of motorsport horsepower, the Australian Top Fuel Championship,” said Anthony Hughes, General Manager Marketing at Burson Automotive. “We look forward to giving our teams, customers and the wider community the chance to enjoy and experience this sensational category. At Burson, we like to do motorsport a little differently, spreading the love and seeking opportunities to support a mix of grassroots, local and the more unique Australian Motorsport categories.”
The signing of Burson Auto Parts is a major coup for TF that last had a sponsorship deal of any significance back in the 1990s when domestic cigarette company Winfield was a major backer of the category.
“We’re proud to welcome Burson Auto Parts as naming rights partner to the Championship in our first year,” said ATFC co-promoter Andy Lopez. “Burson is an iconic Australian brand with a proud history in motorsport at all levels. Their investment means we are able to broadcast all championship rounds, including Top Fuel and other participating categories, around Australia and the world.”
Lopez also revealed that Top Fuel racing would return to free to air TV in Australia for the first time in over a decade with a one-hour program broadcast after every round, showing Top Fuel and highlights of other categories.
Each round will be streamed live and free around Australia and be available in North America on MATV and Motorvision.
Heading the broadcast team will be leading Australian motorsport TV producer Nathan Prendergast.
“Drag Racing is one of the few motorsports that’s great to watch live and is also fantastic on TV,” said Prendergast. “The investment from Team Burson means we’ve been able to put together a broadcast deal that brings more racing to more fans around Australia. This is sensational for everyone in the sport – racers, sponsors, participating venues and most importantly, the fans.”
After the opening round in Sydney, the series includes rounds in Victoria, Western Australia, a return to Sydney and a Grand Final at Hidden Valley, Darwin, in June.
