CAMRIE CARUSO PLANS TO RACE FULL NHRA PRO STOCK SCHEDULE IN 2022

Camrie Caruso will become NHRA’s second full-time Pro Stock driver in NHRA history during the 2022 season. This was announced on Friday at the NHRA Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex outside of Dallas, Texas.

The third-generation drag racer will follow in the footsteps of her grandfather “Papa” Joe Caruso, and most recently, her father, Pro Modified competitor Marc Caruso.

“I’m very excited to make the move up to NHRA Pro Stock,” said Caruso, 23. “We weren’t planning on this, but everything kind of fell into place over the last few weeks. I think it’s going to be a cool opportunity with everything that comes along with it.”

The Caruso Family purchased a Jerry Haas-built Camaro Pro Stocker formerly campaigned by Alex Laughlin. Power will come from horsepower formerly employed by past NHRA Pro Stock champion Tanner Gray.

The Caruso Family team purchased four engines from Gary, and moving forward, has formed an alliance with Eric Latino’s newly formed Titan Racing Engines.

Caruso, a former Junior Dragster racer, has spent much of the 2021 season in the PDRA’s Outlaw 632 division in a naturally aspirated, clutch-assisted Pontiac GXP. She also earned her NHRA Pro Stock license behind the wheel of the former mountain motor car.

“I feel like I’ll get up to speed pretty quickly, and if it wasn’t for the 632 car, I might not feel the same way,” Caruso said. “That car is set up exactly how the Pro Stock car will be. Even when I went to the quarter-mile with my 632 car to get my Pro Stock license, I was right there. I went 6.70 [seconds]. I wasn’t too far off from the rest of the class. I feel like I have a pretty good idea of what to expect.”

Caruso’s road to this point has also included stints in Top Alcohol Dragster, where she secured an NHRA event title, and has also spent time in PDRA Top Dragster, where she also won.
