CARR PICKS UP SECOND NHRA MOUNTAIN MOTOR PRO STOCK TITLE

Well, they can't say he didn't give ample warning.

Friday, after Elijah Morton secured the provisional Mountain Motor Pro Stock No. 1 qualifying position, Morton admitted JR Carr came to him and said, "Enjoy it while I could because he's coming for me, but he's got to come to get it, so we'll see what happens."

Blame it on the rain for Carr not being able to do it in qualifying. But Carr made good on his promise on his last run of the weekend.

Carr also got a measure of assistance from Morton, who fouled away his chance to fend off the Chevrolet driver. The win marked the second for the former 500-inch Pro Stock racer in NHRA's exhibition series.

"Yesterday was tough; the rain, the track, and we adjusted," Carr said. "[Crew chief Frank Gugliotta] and the crew are just phenomenal. It's awesome, NHRA and the Franklin Family; I've seen them out there working all day. That family and the kids are just awesome. They've helped our class a lot, and so has NHRA. We owe a lot to them.

"This [win's] for Jason. Jason, my crew guy, has been sick."

Carr entered eliminations as the No. 2 seeded driver and scored wins over John Montecalvo and John DeFlorian to reach the final round. For his part, Morton drove to wins over Brad Waddle and Tommy Lee to reach the championship round.
