GREG ANDERSON KEEPS PRO STOCK MOMENTUM GOING WITH TOP QUALIFIER AT ATLANTA

Greg Anderson is now 3-for-3.

The former NHRA Pro Stock world champion has now qualified No. 1 at the first three races of the 2021 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series.

Anderson’s latest No. 1 position came at the 40th annual Lucas Oil Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway.

Driving his Denso-sponsored Chevrolet for owner Ken Black, Anderson clocked a 6.548-second run at 210.41 in the second qualifying session Saturday to capture the top spot.

This was the 109th career No. 1 qualifying position in Anderson’s illustrious career.

Anderson has won NHRA Pro Stock world championships IN 2003-2005 and 2010. Sunday, Anderson will be vying for his 96th career Pro Stock national event win and fifth at Atlanta, which is hosting the final event in the track’s rich history.

Anderson won at Atlanta Dragway in 2004-2005, 2007, and 2012.

“We’re out here having fun in the beautiful weather here today at Atlanta Dragway,” Anderson said on nhra.com. “Everyone is happy and it’s working out great. Three in a row, you can’t complain about that at all. This is one of my favorite tracks and there's a lot of history here, and I’d like to make some more tomorrow. This DENSO Chevy is running great and hopefully, we can find a way to go four rounds Sunday and have a little glory at the end of the day.”

Anderson won the season-opening Gatornationals and was upset in the second round of the Four-Wide Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway the next time out.

Anderson, who collected five qualifying bonus points Saturday during the two sessions, clashes with Fernando Cuadra in the first round. Cuadra, who is driving a 2021 Ford Mustang, qualified in the No. 16 spot at 6.658 seconds at 208.75 mph.

Anderson is second on NHRA’s Pro Stock all-time victory list behind Warren Johnson, who has 97 career wins. Bob Glidden is third on the list with 85 wins.
