MILLICAN: WALMART'S INVOLVEMENT SAYS A LOT ABOUT WHAT DRAG RACING HAS TO OFFER

A funny thing happened on the way to Clay Millican promoting his covid vaccine.

Millican happened to catch the attention of one of the world's largest retailers.

Walmart is partnered with Millican this weekend at the Lucas Oil NHRA Southern National.

"I posted my CDC shot card on social media, and Walmart reached out to me," Millican said. "And within a matter of essentially a week's time, Walmart is out here on our car, and they've got a massive nice display. And people have the opportunity to get their COVID vaccination right here at the drag races."

Walmart had licensed pharmacists onsite Friday to vaccinate eligible attendees and will be at the event through Sunday.

Having a company with the magnitude of Wal-Mart involved, Millican believes, makes perfect sense because of their ability to reach the fans. And for him is a monumental occasion.

"To come to drag racing is like fantasy land for me," Millican said. "To do it with our team is just beyond imagination. When I posted that on my social media accounts, I'd never once thought about it in that it would make a company like Walmart look at what we're doing. But to me, drag racing as a whole, this is a huge announcement for Walmart to realize that there is something here for a company that size. They certainly could go NASCAR racing, Indy car racing. They could have done any of those things, but they chose drag racing. And to me that's a huge win."

Millican believes it's a huge win for Walmart as drag racing comprises hundreds of thousands of drag racing fans at minimum.

"Race fans are definitely Walmart customers," Millican said. "I'm a Walmart customer. I can show you some of my YouTube videos where I was going on a dune trip where I was going to ride out in the desert, and it said in my YouTube that you can't make a trip without shopping at Walmart and buying something. And it's just true. This race team, every weekend, we end up making trips to Walmart."

And Millican has the receipts to prove it.

"This hospitality area operates off of Walmart, and a huge part of our world operates around Walmart," Millican said. "That's all there is to it. There is 90% of this country has a Walmart within 10 miles of where they live. That's how big they are in our world. And it's still, to me, I'm absolutely giddy that they are out here drag racing."
