SCOTTY POLLACHECK ROLLS TO TOP OF PRO STOCK MOTORCYCLE LADDER IN ATLANTA

Pro Stock Motorcycle veteran Scotty Pollacheck captured his first No. 1 spot of the season in dramatic fashion.

Pollacheck, piloting a Gen 2 Erik Buell Racing motorcycle for Matt Smith Racing, clocked a track record elapsed time of 6.779 seconds at 199.20 mph.

Pollacheck was just in front of Joey Gladstone’s 6.780-second time at 198.20.

Pollacheck arrived in Atlanta fourth in the season's point standings on his Denso/Strutmasters.com motorcycle. He lost in the semifinals at the first event of 2021, the Gatornationals, March 14 in Gainesville, Fla. Pollacheck finished fourth at the Four-Wide national event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and lost in the finals.

“We do have an awesome bike,” Pollacheck said to nhra.com. “Matt and Angie (Smith) are making this program work so well and all four bikes are running (well). The bike is awesome and running great, as long as I don’t screw it up.”

Pollacheck takes on former world champion Jerry Savioe in the first round Sunday. Savoie qualified No. 16 at 6.948 seconds at 189.34 mph.

This was Pollacheck’s third career No. 1 qualifying spot. In the second qualifying session Saturday, Pollacheck clocked a 6.810-second lap.

Pollacheck’s name in the headlines should not come as a surprise. He had an outstanding 2020 season.

Pollacheck finished a career-best third in the NHRA season point standings and won his inaugural national event title, capturing the crown at the Denso U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis in September.
