WISCONSIN POTATOES TO SPONSOR FINAL NHRA PRO MOD RACE IN ATLANTA

When good things like Atlanta Dragway hosting an NHRA national event come to an end, other great things begin as is the case with Wisconsin-grown potatoes going into retailer Menards to support the NHRA Pro Mod class.  The NHRA E3 Spark Plugs Pro Mod Series presented by J&A Service will be Powered by Wisconsin Potatoes during the final Lucas Oil NHRA Southern Nationals at the track in Commerce, Georgia, April 30-May 2.

Wisconsin grower Alsum Farms & Produce, began shipping potatoes to Menards this week for consumers to purchase in stores.  Dana Rady, Director of Promotions with the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association (WPVGA), expressed her excitement about the opportunity saying, “With Menards headquartered in Wisconsin it is great to see our home state products reach their Midwest customer base.  We know that individuals and families who include potatoes in their daily diet have extra nutrition for all kinds of activities including professional drag racing and other sports.”

The Pro Mod class will be competing in its second race of the season when it visits Atlanta Dragway.   Jose Gonzalez won the opening race in Gainesville, and held off a competitive field of racers that will be sporting a new sponsor and decal from Wisconsin Potatoes, Alsum Farms & Produce, and Menards in Atlanta.  “It will be great to see our potatoes in Menards stores during the same time frame as the race in Atlanta,” noted Marketing Manager Christine Lindner from Alsum Farms & Produce.  “The Pro Mod race provides a lot of ways to tell fans about our delicious russet potatoes.  It’s also fun to see three great Wisconsin entities supporting the racers and fans.”

The famous Wisconsin Spudmobile, WPVGA’s traveling billboard and mobile education unit, will be on site at the Brainerd NHRA nationals later this year to interact with fans at a race closer to its home base in Wisconsin.  The WPVGA utilizes the Spudmobile for public interaction and education about the healthy benefits of having potatoes in your daily diet as well as the importance of buying local.
