IT'S THE BIGGER PICTURE THAT MATTERS TO FUNNY CAR RACER MATTER

Many things matter to Nancy Matter, but the one that takes the top spot is giving back to worthwhile causes.

It's not hard to pick up on her passion for those who have helped her to help care for others and inspire the way she gives back to good causes.
One need not look any further than the reverence she holds for children and the American military veteran.

Once she rolls through the track with her hauler, elapsed times and speeds are important to her. However, it doesn't take much to realize that the bigger picture takes center stage.

On the side of her trailer, Driven to Make Change and Ride for Kids, becomes the ultimate conversation starter with race fans and fellow racers.

"There was a little boy named Alex who had a type of cancer called DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma), and he wanted to sit in the car," Matter explained. "He had a backpack on, and when I told him he had to take it off to sit in the car, he told me that it keeps him alive. I was a little bit taken aback by the fact that he was actually dying of this disease. Alex lived about another eight months, but that experience inspired me to begin making keychains out of the spark plug that I use on each run."

The sales of those keychains paid three months of rent, utilities, and food for a single mother of a girl named Ariana, who was also dying of the disease, which affects anywhere between 200-400 children annually.
DIPG accounts for roughly 10% of all brain tumors in children.

Also featured prominently on the car are the likenesses of Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield and the American Valor Foundation, which supports programs such as gym memberships for veterans, mental health care for veterans and police officers, and care for the widows of fallen soldiers.

Matter plans soon to unveil a Camping World Drag Racing Series Funny Car promoting  Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield, a program done so with the blessing of their respective moms, with plans to donate money back to American Valor.

"We are hoping to run it exclusively in the NHRA funny car category, but we also have the Nostalgia Funny Car that we ran at Funny Car Chaos," Matter explained. "The (nostalgia) car is funded completely by our diesel repair shop, and all the proceeds go to American Valor. We have several match races lined up for this year, and we will continue working towards getting ready to get the nitro car funded and ready to run."
