STEVIE FAST GETS HIS POINT ACROSS; BONUS POINTS ADDED TO PRO MOD

And to think Stevie "Fast" Jackson didn't think the NHRA listened to him.

The two-time NHRA Pro Modified champion had his wish granted by the NHRA when they announced the addition of bonus points to their championship program.

Jackson lobbied for change on a recent episode of the CompetitionPlus POWER HOUR saying, "All this sandbagging and flying in for Q3 and qualify number one and flying back out 15 minutes later," Jackson said. "You give everybody qualifying bonus points in Pro Mod where it's enough to where it's rounds of racing at the end of the year; you'll stop all the bullcrap sandbagging.

"NHRA can do an easier job doing parity because everybody'll have to run it hard. Nobody skips out on the hot session in Q3 because you know you can't improve. The fans are the boss; give the fans a show. We need qualifying bonus points in Pro Mod. There you go. I've been waiting for a stage to say that."

The NHRA released the following statement on April 14, 2022.

The following is the new NHRA point structure for 2022

Drivers competing in the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series will earn championship points at each of the 10 NHRA national events at which they compete. The points will be accumulated throughout the year, and an annual champion will be crowned in the series at the conclusion of the season.

Contestants in Pro Mod compete to secure the championship starting in Gainesville and concluding in Dallas. Event points will be awarded as follows:

Performance bonus points are awarded based on the average e.t. at the conclusion qualifying as follows:

Performance bonus points WILL NOT be awarded if there are no qualifying sessions available.

All e.t.s count towards the average qualifying e.t. when the vehicle crosses the finish line.

Stage without finishing the run equals 28 seconds for the qualifying session.

Did not make a qualifying attempt the run equals 32 seconds for the qualifying session.

Vehicle crosses the centerline the run equals a 32-second entry for the qualifying session.

Your competitor’s centerline violation affects your e.t. (timing cone knocked out), the run equals a 0 e.t. and does not count towards the average.

Qualifying positions earn points as follows:
