LOPEZ WINS BACK TO BACK AT TEXAS MOTORPLEX DOUBLE HEADER

 

In the final results from Texas Motorplex and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series two local racers claimed victories taking home the trophies in Stock Eliminator and Super Street. In Stock, Jeff Lopez, Irving, Texas, made a winning pass against Jerry Emmons in the final round with a time of 9.387 seconds, 136.91 mph, making this Lopez’s second win of the double header weekend. In Supper Street, John Long Jr, Red Oak, Texas, went up against John Leibham with a very tight finish taking the win with a run of 10.873, 121.40.

A pair of NHRA South Central Division hitters went to battle in the Super Stock final and reigning division champion Ross Laris took on Darian Boesch in the SDPC Top Dragster Final. Larris, Raceland, La., took the win running 6.050 seconds at 234.04 mph to Boesch’s 6.114, 222.66.  Slate Cummings out ran Jimmy Hidalgo in Super Stock clocking in at 9.414, 139.18 in his ’03 Cavalier to Hidalgo’s 9.737, 134.08 in his ’99 Firebird.

COLLIER CROWNED MOSER SPORTSMAN SHOOTOUT CHAMPION

 

Jackson Collier drove his ’69 Camaro to the win in the NHRA Moser Sportsman Shootout this weekend during the South Central Division double-header event at Texas Motorplex.
 
Collier, Benton, La., qualified in Super Gas out of the year-long points battle during the 2017 NHRA racing season, and would face off with 15 other drivers from seven different NHRA classes in the eighth-mile competition.

SEVERANCE, GORDON, AND BERTOZZI LEAVE THE STRIP WITH WALLYS

 

Joey Severance, Doug Gordon, and Anthony Bertozzi celebrated with their teams in winner’s circle this past weekend following the conclusion of the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Pacific division event at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

In the Top Alcohol Dragster final round, Kim Parker, Graham, Wash., grabbed the starting line advantage, but quickly had traction issues. Severance, Woodburn, Ore., powered through, surpassing Parker for the victory running 5.224 seconds, 276.07 mph. Parker came in second at 5.721 seconds, 260.36 mph. Severance continues the defence of his 2017 Lucas Oil World Championship.

DUBBIN, WILLIAMS TAKE HOME BIG WINS AT NHRA D4 LODRS

 

In the first half of the double header NHRA South Central Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Texas Motorplex Dean Dubbin and Kirk Williams took home the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car respectively.

Dubbin, Royalton, Minn., came out of the No. 8 qualifying position and defeated Megan Meyer in the final for the win with a lap of 5.565 seconds, 258.76 mph.  Dubbin beat out No. 1 qualifier Shane Conway and Buddy Domingue in rounds one and two to advance to the final round.

SEVERANCE AND LAMB DEFEND CROWNS IN LAS VEGAS

 

Joey Severance and Justin Lamb visited the winner’s circle this past weekend in the Denso Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

In the Top Alcohol Dragster final round, Julie Natass, Drøbak, Norway got off to a great start; peaking at 5.349 seconds, 267.32 mph. However, she was unable to hold off hard charging Severance, Woodburn, Ore., who registered a victory pass of 5.244 seconds, 275.00 mph. Severance continued the defence of his 2017 Lucas Drag Racing Series Top Alcohol Dragster World Championship.

STACKED FIELD TO BATTLE FOR MOSER SPORTSMAN SHOOTOUT

 

The NHRA South Central Division Moser Sportsman Shootout is set to take place on Saturday, April 14 with a stacked field. The specialty event is contested in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series doubleheader weekend at Texas Motorplex.

NGK Spark Plugs is extending their sponsorship with NHRA Top Sportsman Driver and US Army Veteran, Don O'Neal, through the 2019 season, taking the primary entitlement spot on the hood of his 632 Big Block Chevy.

LAMB CHANGING COURSE IN 2018

Justin Lamb has good news for Stock and Super Stock competitors in the NHRA Lucas Oil Sportsman series.

The winner of four NHRA world championships in the past five years, including two last year, does not plan on competing for another one this year.

But his desire to dominate in competition isn’t waning, and he’ll race this weekend in the DENSO Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
