VIDEO FEATURE: THE STORY BEHIND THE FIRST AUSSIE PRO STOCK ‘6’

Peter Ridgeway, an Australian Pro Stock racer, etched his name in drag racing history on May 6.

Ridgeway recorded Australia’s first six second run, a 6.997sec elapsed time during the ANDRA Pro Series Nitro Champs at Sydney Dragway. Australian Pro Stockers run a 400-cubic inch displacement.

Four years in the planning, the four-time Australian Pro Stock Champion Ridgeway finally returned to racing with new partner and longtime mate John O'Kearney two years ago, but have raced only intermittently since they debuted their their Don Ness-built Holden Monaro at the 2010 Winternationals (at which they set the national speed record).

The first six came almost 18 years to the day since Ridgeway claimed Australia's first seven second run with his then Pontiac Grand Prix at the same event, albeit 'next door' at Eastern Creek Raceway (which was where they ran before Sydney Dragway was built).
