Darrell Russell was this man.

Russell, the standout Top Alcohol Dragster racer, was selected to fill the role of the successor to Joe Amato, an outgoing and popular Top Fuel legend. In his first outing, Russell drove Amato's dragster to a win in his first outing.

Russell was killed in an accident in 2004, robbing the world of a truly genuine person, and drag racing of a future world champion.
