FEEDBACK FRIDAY – FROM THE MISC. FOLDER

I have always felt that the safety nets were a good thing for a door car or something with a large frontal area. I think what happened to Mark was inevitable sooner or later. With a dragster or a motorcycle, I feel that chances of injury or worse are much higher because of the net and it's design. I have run quarter- mile for most of my life and while my Top Dragster only runs a little over 200, I have seen how fast the end of the track comes if there is a problem, I can't imagine having a chute or brake problem at near or above 300 mph. I am starting to think that maybe the 1,000 ft race track has become the thing to do. We all want to go home after the race, win or lose. Thanks for your time. - Tom Fisher

I don't want to highlight any one part of your article because, literally, the whole article is brilliant.

Thank you for so eloquently stating what I am sure many, many, drag racers like myself and race fans in general are feeling about the recent safety issues and the NHRA in general.

Just brilliant. - Paul Reiter

How about we keep quarter mile racing and get rid of you instead? - Mark Breznay

NO WAY, that is a terrible idea. I have at least 25 friends that used to go from one to four races a year and have gone to 0 since the 1000 rule. I used to go to that many myself. Now I only go to the US NATIONALS because I took my son when he was 10 years old at the 1983 Nationals and he has not missed one since and I have missed only two. It has become a family tradition and if it wasn't I would not go. I will return to for 2 to 4 races when the NHRA comes up with a way to go back to 1320. That is when my friends will return also. By the look of the stands on TV, I think the NHRA could use all the fans they can get. - Ron Jelinek

04_15_2010_wadeAlthough as a promoter I thought it was brilliant but as ex-Top Fuel driver a disaster. Watching two fuelers on TV is hard enough, but 4 is impossible. IHRA and NHRA are thinking out of the envelope to keep a float in this disastrous economy, as are all the track owners and operators only time will tell what works and what will not. The next 4 wide should not be points implicated. - Danny Dunn
