LUNATI’S NEW LS1 GEN-III/ IV VOODOO HIGH-LIFT CAMSHAFTS

Lunati hits the tarmac in 2010 with a comprehensive line of 25 new Gen-III and IV LS1 Voodoo camshafts that are guaranteed “to meet or exceed all 5e_LunatiNewCamsLSyour lift needs.”

New Voodoo weaves several levels of engine evil as Lunati provides specific timing for the following combinations: LS3/L92, LS3/L92 High-Lift, LS1 High-Lift, LS1 with carburetor, LS1 Nitrous Oxide/Supercharger, LS1 Turbo, LS1 with L92 heads, and LS1/L92 High-lift. Camshaft values range from durations of 212/223 to 255/263 degrees (at 0.050-inch), lifts from 0.550 to 0.651-inch, and lobe separation angles from 112 to 116 degrees.

“We’ve generated more area under the lift curve and worked on improving valve acceleration rates. With our latest software we’ve been able to design lobes with quicker acceleration, resulting in faster valve openings and softer landings on the valve seats. This advantage is achieved partly by asymmetrical lobes [one side of the ramp is gently concaved],” said Lunati’s Jeff Sams. ”We would call them an aggressive roller profile, thus expanding our line of Voodoos.”

With the advent of emissions laws and the widespread use of computer systems, cam makers have developed modern single and dual profile pattern designs. A dual pattern camshaft is ground to enhance the duration of either the intake or exhaust lobe. For example, if an engine is restricted on the exhaust side as compared to the intake side, the camshaft designer would compensate by grinding in more lift and/or duration on the exhaust lobe, and vise-versa.

“To fit the application, we have a new line of link-bar lifters as well for better control and higher lobe lift than is possible with the OE plastic retainers, although some of the milder grinds can still take advantage of the OE retainer. When you add more lobe lift, the lifter travel in these engines becomes an issue, “noted Sams. “Further, these camshafts are rifle-drilled to eliminate power-robbing weight.”

All OE LS applications are fitted with single valve springs that ultimately limit lift. The new Lunati dual valve spring kit (PN 73925K1LUN) enables a maximum lift capability beyond 0.600-inch. The kit is the perfect complement to the new and robust roster of LS Voodoo camshafts and is complete with dual valve springs, spring locators and steel retainers (both made from 4140 chrome molybdenum steel), locks and valve seals and represents a drop-in installation for many popular LS applications. These new Voodoo camshafts are in stock and ready to ship.
