SONNY’S NEW 5.300 WEDGE ENGINE DEBUTS WITH BIG POWER

Since the introduction of Sonny’s Racing Engine’s Next Generation semi-hemispherical head and 5.300 bore center blocks, the sonnys_864_Wedge_low_res.jpgdrag race industry has never been the same. That’s why the introduction of Sonny’s new 5.300 wedge head engines for nitrous applications has been eagerly anticipated.

The inherent advantages of large displacement engines with big bores and short strokes has caught the attention of many racers in Pro Nitrous, Pro Street, Top Sportsman and Quick 8 racing. With available bores ranging from 5.000 to 5.100 inches with strokes of 5.500 to 5.750 inches, Sonny’s now offers displacement of 864 and on up to nearly 940 cubic inches with the racer’s choice of semi-hemispherical or wedge head designs.

Initial dyno tests of a low 13.1 compression 864 with the wedge head were just recently completed with 1,719 peak horsepower at 7,800 rpm. Total weight is just 676 lbs race ready with 3-stages of nitrous and oil. The semi-hemispherical head design offers even more horsepower.

Whether naturally aspirated, with forced induction or nitrous, Sonny’s 5.300 monster engines are among the most powerful and versatile engines on the market today.  In fact, at the most recent Street Car Supernationals at Vegas, Frank Tamez ran his new 892 cu. in. engine to a 6.388 at 217.74 – at 3,000 feet! That was naturally aspirated without nitrous with the Next Generation hemispherical head on just the 7th pass in the car.
