JEGS U.S. OPEN BRACKET CHAMPIONSHIPS COME TO O'REILLY RACEWAY PARK, JUNE 18-21

The “Big Go of Bracket Racing” makes its return to O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis next month, as the JEGS U.S. Open Bracket Championships comes to the illustrious Indiana facility for four days of the greatest bracket competition on the planet. The event features a purse of well over $200,000 in cash and prizes to be distributed throughout the weekend. Presenting sponsors for the event include Auto Meter, Danny Nelson’s Race Craft Chassis, and Steve Schmidt Competition Engines. This season’s daily events will be presented by American Race Cars, DragsterForSale.com, Motorvation, and The Fab Shop.

The same features that have made the JEGS U.S. Open one of the premier events in sportsman drag racing will remain in place. The 3-day (Friday-Sunday) weekend entry is just $500; and the three events pay a whopping $20,000 (Friday and Saturday) and $10,000 (Sunday) to win. Payback starts with third round winners on each day of competition; so any competitor that can win third round on each day of the event has their weekend entry fee covered. There will be no buybacks in the event as long as the race features over 256 entries (there have been no buybacks at the JEGS U.S. Open events since the inaugural event five years ago). As always, the purse for the event is 100% guaranteed; and special features include one-of-a-kind JEGS trophies for the champions, in addition to a host of products giveaways and prizes throughout the weekend. New for 2009 is a huge Thursday warm-up race presented by American Race Cars. The winner of this special event will receive $10,000 AND a new American Race Cars Patriot Swing Arm dragster! Like the weekend events, payback starts with third round winners, and there will be no buybacks with over 256 entries. Entry for the Thursday warm-up race is $200.

In addition to the great on-track action, the JEGS U.S. Open Bracket Championships has also become known for the good times had by competitors from all over the continent. The 2009 edition will be no different, as DragstersForSale.com will host their annual racers party Friday night at the race track. The crew at Schmidt Competition Engines also annually treats competitors in their midway setup with food and beverages. Plus, the legendary J.W. Performance Happy Hour and Pit-Pro Golf Cart Race will once again cap off the Saturday night activities.

“Overall, we had a great event in 2008,” explained event co-promoter Dave Szerlag. “We had rough weather, and we had a few growing pains as it was our first year at O’Reilly Raceway Park, but overall the event was a huge success. We learned a lot and we’ve made a lot of minor changes to the program for 2009 that will only make the event more streamlined and more enjoyable for the participants.”

Some of those changes include a streamlined time trial and run card system (to keep wait times in the staging lanes to a minimum), the enhanced Thursday race program, and several special perks and benefits for the participants.

“Last season, in spite of the bad weather and the huge turnout, we did get two of the races run to completion, and for the most part we had a great time. When the rains came on Sunday, we split the remaining prize money, and actually paid over 100% of the purse. With four years under our belts, I think the racers understand that the JEGS U.S. Open Bracket Championships is here to stay. The purses are 100% guaranteed; we’ve always tried to provide a safe, fair, competitive, and most of all fun environment for the racers; and those traditions will remain intact.” Said Szerlag.
