Food City officials announced today that they will sponsor the return of night qualifying to Bristol Dragway on Friday, May 15, 2009.  Food City Qualifying Under The Lights At Thunder Valley brings NHRA’s nitro-powered machines to the line in primetime for an awesome show of power and performance.

“As the longest running sponsor at Bristol Motor Speedway and the second longest in NASCAR motor sports, we have enjoyed a wonderful relationship with Bristol Motor Speedway over the years,” said Food City President/CEO Steven C. Smith.  “Many of our customers are huge fans of the sport and we’re extremely excited to have this opportunity to branch into drag racing.”

Those that have witnessed it before know nighttime qualifying adds an extra mystique to an already exciting show.  Fans are in for a treat when 8,000 horsepower engines blast nitro exhaust and huge flames as drivers push their cars to reach speeds in excess of 300 mph. The resulting show is unlike anything else in the motorsports world.

“We are very pleased about night qualifying on Friday and even more excited that our friends at Food City are going to be part of what will be a fantastic weekend,” said BMS President Jeff Byrd.  “Food City has always been a very important member of the Bristol family. We’ve had a great history with them and we’re happy we have an opportunity to introduce them to the world of drag racing.”
