There were tense moments on Friday evening during the Pro Nitrous qualifying session when during a routine nitrous purse racer Thomas “Slick” Myers had his Corvette flame up in a massive fireball.
Reportedly a stuck nitrous solenoid is to blame.
Myers was uninjured in the mishap but the team’s classic Corvette is
worse for wear. He is done for the weekend and as for the car, it is
headed to Andy McCoy Race Cars for repair.
“I’m fine, my feelings are just hurt an awful lot,” Myers said Friday
afternoon. “Most of us racers are out here on a budget and when
something like this happens it becomes a huge setback.”
Myers didn’t exit the car immediately but as the fire engulfed the front end, he got out quickly.
“I just didn’t know how bad it was initially,” Myers said. “When it lit
up I bailed. We had the motor high enough that it shouldn’t have done
what it did.” - Lead photo courtesy of ADRL Communications, Inset by
