Brett Harris, of Kaysville, Utah set a new track record for Nostalgia Front Engine Top Fuel Dragster of 5.889 ET at 204.54 MPH. His father, Jack Harris, previously held the record of 5.915 ET in 2003.

The most exciting thing was that the car Brett was driving Saturday night was the same car his father drove when his father set the record.

“Setting a new track record at Rocky Mountain Raceways is great. We have been trying to do this for awhile now.” said Brett Harris. “We have really enjoyed Jet Car Spring Nationals. Seeing all of the fans is the best part.”

The fan favorite of the night was the Jet Cars. Jet Cars have an actual jet engine that powers the car. The cars have 8,000 horsepower and average speeds of about 270 miles per hour.

Jet Car drivers, Brad and Heather Janishewski, were some of the night’s favorite racers. This husband and wife race team from Canada drove Jet Cars that ran about 250 miles per hour down the 1/4 mile.

This is the third season the Janishewski’s have been competing with each other in Jet Car match races. Brad drives the Rollin’ Thunder Jet Car and Heather drives the Her-A-Cane Jet Car.

“Our husband and wife team brings something to the show. I hope to win but I know she will surprise me,” said Brad Janishewski.

“Everything went going great. We had an awesome crowd and amazing racers. Everyone worked together to put on a great show,” said Ron Craft, Rocky Mountain Raceways Drag Strip Manager.

Racers have agreed that Rocky Mountain Raceways is a great environment for racing.

“We always come for the Jet Car Spring Nationals. It is a great race.” said Chuck Haynes of Billings, Montana.

Haynes holds Rocky Mountain Raceways’ Jets record. He set the record in 2003, running 299.50 miles per hour down the 1/4 mile. When launching the Jet Cars, the driver can experience up to 4 to 5 g-force.

The fastest Jet Car this Saturday night was Haynes’ Volcano at 295.95 miles per hour.

“You never know what to expect when you go out there. It is always great to come to a good quality track,” said Haynes.

Ed (The Outlaw) Jones raced his Jelly Belly stagecoach racer down the 1/4 mile on the back two wheels of his car at about 100 miles per hour.

“It was great to see all the kids and families at the race track,” said Jones.

In its thirteenth year, Rocky Mountain Raceways also hosts oval racing, motocross racing, monster trucks and drifting.

Rocky Mountain Raceways’ next events include the Young Chevrolet 100 (May 25), Tint & Accessories Midnight Drags (May 29), Plazacycle Motocross Park Race (May 30).
