MAPLE GROVE HOSTS PRO MODS, BRACKETS

Pete Farber and Jeff Blasi drove to victory Saturday night as the Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Association concluded the Rumble at The Maple-Grove-Winners.jpgGrove in thrilling fashion.
 
The late evening finish topped a long day at Maple Grove Raceway that featured an early morning flea market that drew dozens of vendors and the 11th round of the Sunoco Race Fuels Money Trail.
 
Farber needed to defeat veteran racer Tommy Gray to claim his victory in the Blower/Turbo class. The Baldwinville, Mass., resident drove his 1969 Daytona to a quick finish of 6.110 seconds at 234.09 mph down the quarter-mile. He had nearly a half-second better reaction time over Gray’s ’68 Camaro and then took the holeshot.

“This car has given me some good, reliable runs,” said Farber, who won earlier this year at New England Dragway. “I’m aligning myself with the right people.”
 
Blasi, from Hackettstown, N.J., took the Nitrous/Aspirated class with a run of 6.352 at 222.22. The win helps Blasi in the season points. He came into the weekend in second place behind Mark Hayes.
 
The Money Trail featured a trip to Victory Lane that was a long time coming. Phil Williams (Mohrsville, Pa.) won the Street Eliminator class by outracing Michael VanDenHeuvel (Elkton, Md.) in his ’71 Dodge Dart. With a dial-in of 11.52, Williams raced to a finish of 11.528 at 115.64 in the final.
 
“This feels great; I’ve been trying to do this for 10 years,” Williams said. “This was a tough field of cars.”
 
Scott Weney (Royersford, Pa.)  won Super Eliminator with a pass of 8.648 at 156.03, beating Billy Boyko (Northampton, Pa.) after he left the starting line just .013 seconds too early. The top qualifier, Weney needed to make his way through seven rounds of eliminators before facing Boyko, who was second.
 
Paul Thimm Jr. (Mohnton, Pa.) almost faced his wife, Erin, the top qualifier, in the  Pro Eliminator finals. However, Tim Rambo (Kenhorst, Pa.) took advantage of a better reaction time in the semifinals. In the final, Paul Thimm drove his ’76 Vega to a run of 9.208 at 133.88 to outrace Rambo.
 
“Everything was rolling,” said Thimm, who also had to survive seven elimination rounds. “I was on my game today.”
 
Chris Swiegart (Reading, Pa.) rode to victory in Top Bike, defeating Robert Terreson (Mohnton Pa.) in the final, getting a pass of 8.870 at 145.47 mph on his ’89 Kawasaki. Terreson advanced to the final by defeating polesitter Joe Stuebner (Hamburg, Pa.) in the semifinals.
 
Elise Pennington (Barto, Pa.) won the big trophy in Junior Dragsters. She defeated Jimmy Fizz (Pottstown, Pa.) in the final, with an eighth-mile run of 7.942 at 83.65.
 
Anthony Recco (Lansdale, Pa.) won Trophy class with a run of 13.758 at 83.10 in his ’91 Mustang.
 
Next weekend’s holiday racing card includes Auto Locator Friday Night Grudge Racing, followed by two more rounds of the Money Trail on Saturday and Sunday.
