The track proved tricky for the professional classes on the first day with several cars getting some scary moments from half track onwards, worst case was Mattias Wulcan in his ‘13’ Pro Mod ‘Vette living up to its unlucky number. The car was wrecked after several rolls but he emerged without injury. Rain ended the huge event just prior to any Pro and most Sportsman finals being run.

England’s Andy Carter added to his Top Fuel point total in the FIA Championship by getting to the rained out 1000 foot final which would have proved a great race as he was pitted against top qualifier, Finnish racer Risto Poutiainen after defeating Finland’s Anita Mäkelä in one, then Holland’s Lex Joon, 4.142/263 to 4.206/229, both hazing the tyres at 800 feet.

Risto Poutiainen took Top Fuel pole position with a fine 1000 foot time of 4.055/277. The racer from Finland then took care of local man Micke Kǻgered 4.081/251 win to a 4.276/258 and a 4.216/243 stayed ahead of the losing 4.280/250 from Swiss man Urs Erbacher before the rain put paid to the finals.

Dave Wilson from England took control of qualifying with a 5.312/269 from his A/Fuel Top Methanol Dragster he beat a tyre smoking Finn Esko Raisvou in round one, Swede Krister Johansson with a 5.301 and a whopping 277mph to an up in smoke 6.567/155 to reach the un-run final.

Germany’s Timo Habermann managed a 5.539/212 for sixth place in TMD qualifying then beat younger brother Dennis in a heck of a race 5.437/258 to a losing 5.437/254 before taking out fellow countryman Peter Schöfer who suffered shake, 5.459/254 to the lifted 8.471/98 try.

Sweden’s Ulf Leanders took his Dodge Charger to the number one in Top Methanol Funny Car with a 5.802/241. An easy 8.099/109 got by a breaking Per Hǻkan Troa from Norway in round one then a bye in the semis put him into the aborted finals.

Dan Larsen from Denmark came from fifth qualifier to a finals place in his TMFC Dodge Stratus with a solo win as Sweden’s Leif Andréasson had broken then an easy 7.372/179 as Finland’s Jarmo Kuutniemi broke at half track on that pairing.

Sweden’s Jimmy Ålund managed a number two Pro Stock qualifier with a 6.793/203 behind Finn Richard Sundblom on a 6.791/202. Ålund beat a red lighting Eero Knihtila with a 6.854/202 then ran a 6.773/203 to see off Michael Malmgren’s 6.853/201 to meet Hansson in the rained out final.

Magnus Hansson took his place in the un-run Pro Stock final coming from number four in qualifying to defeat fellow Swede Tommy Leindahl in round one 6.935/199 to the slowing 8.669/116 then a 6.977/198 beat the loose and weaving 7.989/124 from Sundblom.

Sweden’s Jan Gunnarsson entered the massive 31 car Pro Mod field with his stunning Coupe deVile gaining the number seven with a remarkable 6.219/222. to everyone’s amazement he made it to the finals beating fellow countrymen Roger Johansson, Micke Gullqvist and Patrik Wikström with a string of 6.1s and 6.2s.

Mats Eriksson from Sweden came from number five qualifier in his Crown Victoria Pro Mod defeating fellow Swede Niclas Andersson in one the German Norbert Kuno in two, 6.125/234 to the slowing 7.805/119 then Swede Urban Johansson to gain a finals place with the 6.129/234 to the red lighting Urban Johansson.

Sweden’s Per Bengtsson came from number three qualifier In Super Twin Bike to enter the rained out finals, he dealt out Sweden’s Greger Johansson who suffered a flash fire at half track then Finland’s Samu Kemppainen with eighth mile times of 4.541/169 to a losing 4.968/148.

Lorenz Stäuble rides his Super Twin Bike like he hates it and it got the often out of shape pair from fourth place up to the final. Stäuble ran a 4.442/168 to beat ’08 Champion Svein Olav Rolfstad then an easy 4.410/172 solo as Finn Matti Vahasaari had broken in round one.

Norway’s Sverre Dahl was number two in the eighth mile Top Fuel Bike qualifiers and beat Holland’s Rene van den Berg in round one, 4.189/182 to a 4.645/164 before seeing off a red lighting ’08 Champion Ian King from England with a 4.169/179 to the 4.287/176.

Sweden’s Rikard Gustafsson rode his Funny Bike into a Top Fuel Bike finals position coming up from fourth qualifier to beat the likes of Sweden’s Peter Andersson Ström then running a winning 4.373/156 to beat the 4.854/107 from Swede Peter Svensson.

Norway’s Kenneth Wik a relative newcomer to Pro Stock Bike got to the finals from a fourth qualifier then getting the better of Swede Gabriella Nikolovska in round one before seeing off the ’08 Champion Finland’s Fredrik Fredlund with a holeshot 7.414/178 quarter mile to a chasing 7.435/175.

Anders Abrahamsson from Sweden wound up in third qualifying spot in Pro Stock Bike then went on to beat fellow countryman Ulf Ögge in a stunningly close race 7.386/177 to a 7.389/177 before running a 7.356/175 win as Brit, Martin Bishop lost body panels on his pass.

Harlan Thompson the US driver got back in the saddle of the replica of the Funny Car he drove in Europe in the early eighties. The ‘Tre Kronor’ flopper owned by Jonny Nilsson last ran at the March Meet at Famosa Raceway, California and will return for the CHRR later this year.
