The rumor is true. Carl Weisinger is offering FREE car and driver entry for this year's World Street Nationals to any racer that entered the 2007 or 2008 World Street Nationals in Orlando, Fla.

Orlando track operator Carl Weisinger said, "It's pretty simple really. We need to say thank you to the racers in a way that isn't just words on a piece of paper or a post on a message board. Not having to pay the $150 entry fee could make the difference for a racer who otherwise might have to sit out the race."

The track has a new web site that will be up and running in a week or so and full event information will be updated and available then.  Racers eligible for the free car and driver entry will receive a letter with instructions on how to get pre-registered.

"This race really is the big dance for 1/4 mile, heads up, door slammer drag racing. I'm surprised when I look back over the past 16 years at who hasn't won this race. Some real heavy hitters have qualified well, gotten inside the 10 yard line so to speak and just haven't been able to get to the finals.” Weisinger continued, “Equally amazing for me is going to the winner's circle for pictures and see a regular guy that may have towed more than a couple thousand miles for this race and was able to put it all together to be on the line for the finals. I'm proud of all the great performances, but it is extraordinarily fulfilling when you see a driver standing beside the car with his wife, the kids, the family dog and a dozen or so friends that showed up too. I don't think any of them will ever forget it."

The 17th Annual REAL World Street Nationals is scheduled for October 29 through November 1, 2009.
