Ray Connolly and Adam Lear also grabbed wins for the home state with Connolly, Elyria, Ohio, knocking out Dennis Rutherford, Newark, Ohio, in the final of Super Gas to add to his list of NHRA national events wins while Lear, also of Newark, Ohio, held off Tyson Fabish, Medina, Ohio, in the Division’s Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster class.  Lear drove to a 7.162 second, 180.48 mph pass for the win over Fabish.

Rutherford was a double finalists competing in two classes this weekend as he also advanced to the final in Super Comp but fell one round short of the win in loosing to west coast racer Brad Plourd.  Plourd, Maple Valley, Wash., posted an 8.931 second run at 163.28 mph for the win.

A special award in the JEGS Crown was up for grabs this weekend to any of the winner’s from the two previous JEGS SPORTSNationals held earlier this year with Mike DeSio making a hard charge for the Crown in Super Street.  DeSio, Seminole, Fla., won the Super Street title at the JEGS Cajun Sportsnationals back in March at No Problem Raceway in Belle Rose, La., and advanced through the Super Street field until he met up with Steve Domingues in the final round.   Domingues, Derby, Kan., had other plans for DeSio and used a starting line advantage in his ’67 Camaro to force DeSio to break out on the 10.90 class index ending his hopes for the JEGS Crown.

In Comp Eliminator it was a couple of hitters doing battle in the final round with Jason Coan, Greentown, Ind., taking the win in his ’32 roadster over Bo Butner, Floyd Knobs, Ind.  Byron Worner, Duncannon, Pa., beat out defending event champion Jeff Taylor, Sellersburg, Ind., in Super Stock and Mary Meints, Panama City Beach, Fla., made sure the female contingent of racers were not shut out taking the trophy in Stock Eliminator over Daryl Bureski, Elgin, Ill.
