“It’s always a great thing when we have the Cowboys around, but it’s even better when their name is really big on the sides of our dragster,” Kalitta’s crew chief and Kalitta Motorsports general manager Jim Oberhofer said. “They’re more than just sponsors to us, they’re family and we’re grateful for all that Technicoat Companies does for our team.

“Everyone at Team Kalitta is also very grateful to Red Line Oil and ROCKY Boots. We’ve been fortunate enough with them and with Technicoat to have primary funding for our dragster since Sonoma (Calif.), and that’s a big help to our entire racing operation.”

The Memphis event is the third in NHRA’s six-event, season-finalizing “playoffs”, the Countdown to 1. Kalitta is currently in the No. 9 points position, 198 points off of the lead. By making this season’s Countdown to 1, Kalitta guarantees himself another top-ten finish in championship points, a fete he has incredibly accomplished in every season of his Top Fuel driving career which began with his Rookie of the Year award-winning season in 1998.

Kalitta won the Top Fuel title trophy in Memphis in 2006.
