“They are sponsoring us for the last two races of the season and hopefully it can work out for next season,” said Spiess, who confirmed that he’s planning to run 24 races next season.

“We plan to run all of them next season … I’m getting rid of my kid’s inheritance.”

Spiess runs engines prepared by carburetor specialist Bob Book.

He currently ranks 14th in the NHRA’s and has qualified in 14 of 17 events attended this season. His best effort was at the NHRA Carolinas Nationals in Concord, NC, where he reached the semi-finals, losing to eventual runner-up Greg Stanfield.

“We’re really doing well,” he added. “And our engine program keeps getting better and better. If there’s an opportunity to do well, it’s going to be next year. We are going to run a tight ship like we did this year.”
