Ken Nelson was on his way to the Tucson Nitro Jam to deliver one of his incredible performances in his wheel-standing “Cool Bus” when he had to detour to a hospital. What was thought to be food poisoning turned out to be pneumonia and lung cancer. Nelson remained in the hospital for over a week, but this particular hospital wasn’t capable of treating his disease. With his conditions prohibiting normal travel, Nelson was stranded in New Mexico.

Doug Kalitta, Jim ‘O’ and Scott Pattison with Kalitta Air Ambulance came to his rescue.  Jim Weinert, IHRA Safety Director, sent out a call Sunday evening for transportation help.  Within 24 hours, Ken was resting in the hospital in Cleveland, Ohio thanks to the efforts of Kalitta Air Ambulance.

Although the Kalittas did this at cost for Ken, the cost of operating the Air Ambulance was still $23,000. God Speed Ministry has set up a Medical Emergency Fund for Ken Nelson to help with these costs,
