This weekend’s PSCA Mickey Thompson Tires Winternationals at The Strip at LVMS cancelled due to weather conditions, rescheduled for Oct. 18-19

The PSCA Mickey Thompson Tires Winternationals event scheduled for this weekend (Jan. 25-27) at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway has been cancelled due to difficult travel conditions throughout the region.  The early cancellation was made so that racers would be spared unnecessary risk and expense of travel in winter weather conditions.  Severe storms in California also are affecting weather conditions in Las Vegas.

"If the PSCA event was strictly for local racers we would probably go ahead as scheduled and make every effort to complete the event between rain showers," said Chris Blair, LVMS’ vice president of racing operations.  "However, more than 80% of the participants at a typical PSCA event live more than 300 miles from Las Vegas.  We have a lot of racers from Northern California, Texas, New Mexico, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Colorado who are facing nearly-impossible travel situations with a pick-up truck or RV towing a race car trailer."

PSCA and LVMS have agreed to add a new event to the 2008 schedule: October 18-19.  The event will conveniently fall between the Phoenix PSCA event of Sept. 27-28 as well as the Fontana, Calif., PSCA event of Nov. 7-8.  The event also will serve as a tune-up event for the Nov. 21-23 Street Car Super Nationals at The Strip at LVMS.

"We are looking at this as an incredible opportunity to have a great fall season for Pro Street racers on the West Coast," Blair added.  "Now those racers who live in the mid-western states and even Canada will have extra incentive to bring their cars to this area after their home tracks have closed for the season.  The host tracks are working with PSCA to provide areas for racers to leave their rigs to significantly reduce travel expenses."

The PSCA event cancellation will not affect Friday evening’s Midnight Mayhem Presented By MetroPCS event.  The program, designed to offer local car enthusiasts a safe alternative to illegal street racing, will begin its seventh season tomorrow at 7 p.m.  Participant and spectator gates will open at 6 p.m.  Entry fee is $10 to race, $5 for spectators.
