Today, VP Race Fuels offered the following statement/clarification through their
public relations director Steve Scheidker in response to an article

Today, VP Race Fuels offered the following statement/clarification through their public relations director Steve Scheidker in response to an article published on CompetitionPlus.com titled NHRA FUEL SUPPLIER - "THERE'S A SHORTAGE OUT THERE"
Last week, a story was published on www.competitionplus.com
regarding the ongoing shortage of nitromethane. In that story, several
statements attributed to VP personnel appeared, which we would now like to
clarify.
First
and foremost, VP has no knowledge that either Don Schumacher Racing or Don
Schumacher individually was involved in any type of conspiracy regarding the
current nitromethane shortage in NHRA racing. Likewise, Don Schumacher Racing
and Don Schumacher individually have nothing to do with VP’s importation of
nitromethane into the United States.
Second, Mr. Schumacher has the right to purchase nitromethane and sell it to
whomever he chooses within the restrictions placed on all sellers by the US
government. He may sell his current nitromethane inventory to whomever he
chooses or may choose not to sell it. In that vein, neither Don Schumacher’s
purchase of nitromethane nor holding his inventory has affected the price of
nitromethane to the ultimate consumer, the NHRA racer. Instead, the reduced
supply, in conjunction with factors outside Don Schumacher’s control, has
resulted in higher prices.
It is
our sincere attempt to resolve this matter completely by issuing this press
release. Accordingly, we will make no further public comments about this as we
continue to do everything we can to supply the NHRA with
nitromethane.
Scheidker declined to comment on the inspiration for the statement but we are told through sources, this clarification was the result of threatened legal action by Don Schumacher's legal team.
