Dale Creasy Jr. was once tickled pink to qualify for an event. Once qualifying became commonplace, getting a round win provided excitement. Round wins turned into event wins and event wins led to the ultimate thrill of winning championships.
There’s something about turning over two-world championships that raises the expectation level for even the most humbled of race car drivers. After losing in the first round twice in 2008 and reaching the final round once, he had to counsel his volunteer crew.

“I told my guys that we aren’t doing bad, we’re just not doing what we did last year. That was a season if you wrote it all down on paper that no one would believe you. That’s just the way last year went for us.

Creasy won an incredible six national events out of eleven in 2007 en route to a 23-5 eliminations record. This season was his championship defense season.

Creasy also drove to his first No. 1 qualifying effort of the season in Maryland.
“That’s kinda cool but it’s a long season,” Creasy said. “You can’t let anyone get away because once they do you start pushing. When the championship battle gets down to it, it’s a fight and my guys have been through it. It puts a lot of pressure on us but we’ve been through it before and know how to handle it. Not saying we are going to win, but we know how to handle the situation. We’ve been through the experience for two years in a row.”

Creasy ranks fifth amongst the all-time winners in IHRA nitro Funny Car history. He trails Dale Pulde, Raymond Beadle, Kenny Bernstein and Mark Oswald. He’s six wins away from overtaking Oswald.

“I know it’s huge and it’s not like I don’t care, I just don’t pay attention to the stats stuff,” Creasy added. “We have enough to worry about the things we have in front of us and the points are what they are. You just have to do your best to get them.”

Creasy credits his crew for putting him in the position. His brother Steve Creasy serves as the team’s crew chief and was voted last season as the IHRA’s professional crew chief of the year.
