ADRL USHERS IN PRO STOCK

Unbeknown to Jeff Dobbins and Kelly Martin, they ushered in an era.

The Pro Stock drivers, even though it was in Friday’s practice, made the first side-by-side runs in ADRL Extreme Pro Stock history.

The duo represents two of 13 teams who have made the trek to Budds Creek, Md., for the introduction of Extreme Pro Stock into the doorslammer-oriented association lineup. The mountain motor Pro Stocker’s represent the latest of the categories being offered by the ADRL.

Originally intended for Pro Modified racing, the ADRL has since expanded to include a motorcycle division and one for outlaw doorslammers running slicks 10.5-inches wide. Extreme Pro Stock makes debut at the ADRL U.S. Drags

Current IHRA Pro Stock world champion, Robert Patrick, considers Maryland International Raceway his home track, and as much as he’d love to win a race at home, he wants to win this very first event for the historical aspect.

“It would mean a lot to me to win this first one,” said Patrick. “There will be a lot of eyes on this race and they are going to be watching to see how this deal turns out. I’ll have the hometown friends and family there to watch us race. This would mean a lot to our team, my crew, myself and my family.”

Patrick likes the idea of ADRL Extreme Pro Stock. This gives teams another option to run their purpose-built race cars. Many of the Ford teams currently compete in Fun Ford events.

“I hope the Extreme Pro Stock class takes off because the mountain-motor racers will have another venue to show what we are capable of doing,” Patrick added.

Past world champion Pete Berner wants to support the program as best he can.

"I want to support this effort," Berner said, "because I feel like it's a good move for our sponsors and the class in general. The teams, manufacturers and sponsors put a great deal of time, effort, and money into the sport. We need to have these cars on the track as much as possible in order to return that investment. The ADRL providing a second venue to race Mountain Motor Pro Stocks can only help grow the class, bring in more sponsors, and increase competition all around.”
