His Top Fuel dragster is another story.

Beginning this weekend, the veteran independent drag racer from Scarsdale, N.Y., will debut a new theme replacing the POW-MIA awareness scheme he started the season with. He’ll return to the traditional Lagana blue, but this time the paint will have a meaning.

“Our entire racing life, this goes for my father and my brother and I we have always had blue race cars, well here we go again, for Martin MI. we will be sporting a brand new body painted by Olson body and paint,” Lagana said. “The body will be painted with a blue angel wing theme. It is by far the prettiest race car we have ever had. We will also be adorning the new paint with some new decals, seeing as how we are so close to home for Evan Knoll and his family business, we are going to be supporting the family Knoll Gas and Propane business. “We are looking forward to having a lot of Evan’s family at the race and I want nothing more than to make them feel as comfortable as possible.”

Lagana has secured six round wins in the last three IHRA events, bringing him into championship contender status. CompetitionPlus.com predicted the fan-favorite Lagana to emerge the 2008 champion.

“I don’t want to say we have a legitimate shot at a top three spot because I do not want to jinx ourselves but I will say we are having a whole lot of fun battling the rest of the Top Fuel class week in and week out,” Lagana said. “These guys are all so good and so much fun to race with. This has got to be a career year for IHRA in the Top Fuel class. We are mainly focused on just qualifying for Martin, once we can secure a spot in the show we will focus on the next round.

“I will say it sure would be neat to win at Torco Race Fuels home track. Besides being Torco’s home track US 131 Motorsports Park is our favorite track, it is a beautiful facility and holds many special memories for our team, I hope this weekend we can make a few more good memories.”
