ICE CREAM SOCIAL RAISES MORE THAN $7,500 FOR ERIC MEDLEN SCHOLARSHIP FUND

More than 3,000 race fans attended the 2nd annual Eric Medlen Ice Cream Social at Infineon Raceway on Sunday following the FRAM Autolite NHRA Nationals.

Fans were able to enjoy an array of flavors, but they also donated $3,824 to the Eric Medlen Scholarship Fund. The total will be matched by Infineon Raceway and the sum, $7,648, will be awarded to Petaluma’s Kevin Neft, winner of Infineon Raceway’s high school bracket drag division, in Medlen’s name. Race fans and the raceway have combined to generate more than $16,734 for scholarships over the first two years of this event. Medlen, who succumbed in March 2007 to injuries sustained from an accident during a testing session at Gainesville (Fla.), was a lover of ice cream, a well-known fact in the industry.  To honor his memory, Infineon Raceway has hosted the ice cream social for the past two years. The annual event takes place on the road course following final eliminations. All ice cream was donated by Dreyer’s Ice Cream.

More than 40 people helped scoop the ice cream for the race fans, including several members of Medlen’s family, including his mother, Mimi, Infineon Raceway president and general manager Steve Page, NHRA president Tom Compton and several NHRA drivers.
