The storm in this instance is the $50,000-to-win Torco Pro Mod Shootout, a special race-within-a-race during the IHRA Torco Northern Nationals in Martin, Mich.
The top eight Pro Modified drivers in the world will square off, looking to claim the $50,000 first prize while the rest will grab their share of a record $100,000 Shootout purse. “This is going to be very intense and a thrill to watch,” IHRA president Aaron Polburn said. “$100 grand, one day, top drivers on the planet…what else could you ask for? Shootouts are always a lot of fun but this one, with a record purse for Pro Modified, will take things one step further. And I could not think of a better place to hold this program than US 131 Motorsports Park.”
Mike Castellana leads the contestants headed into the shootout with a 6.031 elapsed time at 237.00. His run represented a person best time and second quickest in the history of nitrous doorslammers.
