ADRL CANCELS TULSA EVENT

The Flowmaster American Drag Racing League (ADRL) presented by the National Guard announced today that the 2nd annual Shelor.com Spring Drags, originally postponed to Oct. 3-4 at Tulsa Raceway Park, has been canceled due to scheduling conflicts.

With the Tulsa State Fair also set for the early October weekend, ADRL and track officials considered moving the ADRL date a few weeks later, but the 4th annual ADRL World Finals are scheduled for Oct. 24-25, at Dallas, Texas, and it would have placed too much strain on ADRL racers and officials, series president Kenny Nowling explained.

“In the current economic climate we just couldn’t ask our teams to make long tows out west on subsequent weekends,” Nowling said. “Plus, the logistics of having back-to-back national events would have been prohibitive.”

Nowling said the event will return to the ADRL calendar next year.

“We deeply regret having to remove this event from our 2008 schedule, but after also suffering two rain postponements, it’s the decision we had to make,” he stated. “I want to personally thank track owner Dan Guterman and track manager Denise McDaniel for all their hard work and effort toward making this event a success and let them know the ADRL continues to look forward to visiting Tulsa Raceway Park.”

Nowling also said he recognizes the disappointment of Oklahoma fans at not having drag racing’s fastest-growing series come to their favorite track.

“We have felt nothing but welcome by the literally thousands of people our staff has contacted in the Tulsa region,” Nowling said. “This was shaping up to be a truly memorable event at a first-notch facility and I personally want to apologize to each and every fan, business owner and track employee who was looking forward to it happening.”

The next race on the ADRL’s eight-event 2008 schedule is the 2nd annual Gatorz Ohio Drags Aug. 22-23, at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.
