NHRA SOFTBALL GAME RAINED OUT

The NHRA Softball Classic, pitting racers from the NHRA POWERade Series against one another at FirstEnergy Stadium, home of the Philadelphia Phillies' AA affiliate Reading Phillies, was cancelled due to persistent heavy rain and a flooded outfield.

Racers and fans made the most of the inclement weather as fans were treated to an extended autograph session, where they met and chatted with members of both teams as well as Funny Car star Ashley Force and Super Comp champ Shawn Langdon.

While waiting for weather to lift or for the game to officially be called, the racers, led by Gary Scelzi and Jack Beckman, staged an extended Q&A session with fans, local media, and ESPN as rain continued to fall. Once the rain relented, the outfield was determined to be too waterlogged to ensure the safety of the players, and the game was cancelled. The drivers say that they are determined to play the game somewhere later this season, and NHRA will work with them to explore that possibility.

NHRA thanks the racers and fans for their support of the game and especially the Reading Phillies for hospitality during the event.

More than $7,000 was raised for the Drag Racing Association of Women, which aids injured racers and their families in time of financial and emotional need.
