After undergoing surgery at the Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Pa., on Friday, Aug. 15, his lower legs and left hand have been wrapped with a prosthetic "biobrain" burn dressing that promotes healing in second-degree burn areas. He has also taken a few very painful steps in his initial physical therapy session.

He will be flown by private charter from Lehigh Valley Hospital to Indianapolis on Thursday, Aug. 21, and will be taken to his home in Fishers, Ind. His treatment will resume Friday at the Burn Center at Wishard Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis. Wishard will determine when Knudsen's physical and occupational therapy sessions can be moved to his home. A full recovery is expected by some time in October.

Knudsen's spirits have been upbeat throughout his ordeal and he has been in the company of his parents and fiancee, Kate, since last weekend. Many of his DSR teammates have remained in contact by phone, text or visitation.

Messages to Michael may be sent to him c/o Don Schumacher Racing, 1681 E. Northfield Dr., Brownsburg, IN 46112.
