HERNANDEZ RACING THROUGH HURRICANE WORRIES

National Guard Pro Mod driver Josh Hernandez is headed to the Rock to do battle in the Hushpower ADRL Dragstock V, but his heart is in Texas. The current Pro Extreme points-leader left his home north of Houston just as hurricane Ike is gaining speed to make landfall on the city's Gulf coast.

"It's hard to get focused because I've never been gone when we've had a hurricane," Hernandez, a father of two, said. "My wife and the kids aren't too worried, but I'm still torn. I wish I had bought more gas for the generator, though. National Guard Pro Mod driver Josh Hernandez is headed to the Rock to do battle in the Hushpower ADRL Dragstock V, but his heart is in Texas. "I am really excited to be back at the 'Rock, and I am looking forward to unleash some more of that Oddy-tuned horsepower on the track. Jim and Dave [Oddy] have this National Guard '57 Chevy tuned to run like a hurricane - fast, powerful and dangerous. It's just tough to take the hurricane out when there's a hurricane heading toward my house.

Hernandez is the only Pro Extreme driver to have clinched a position in the ADRL Battle for the Belts. Hernandez has won three events this season and is currently 790 points ahead of the competition. He said there's nothing he'd like more than to earn another win and guarantee lane choice in the championship.

"I'd like to bring home that special edition, Gold "Minute Man" this weekend for the National Guard, Flowmaster, and all of our other fine sponsors," Hernandez said.
