Clay Millican is hoping to shine both on and off the racetrack this weekend.
MPE Motorsports, Mark Pickens Enterprises, will open up the doors to the public to their new facility this afternoon at 2pm in Mumford, Tn., an easy 20 minute drive from Memphis Motorsports Park, the site of this weekend's NHRA Mid South Nationals. Clay Millican is hoping to shine both on and off the racetrack this weekend.
MPE Motorsports, Mark Pickens Enterprises, will open up the doors to the public to their new facility this afternoon at 2pm in Mumford, Tn., an easy 20 minute drive from Memphis Motorsports Park, the site of this weekend's NHRA Mid South Nationals.
The new home of MPE Motorsports was once a family arcade. Millican and crew have transformed the interior into a new type of arcade, one where the end result of the game is a 300 mph pass down a 1000' strip of asphalt.
The task of transforming the interior and exterior was not without peril.
“There were pool tables and all kinds of equipment that we had to remove and we learned to do landscaping work as well,” Millican explained.
And, a pond with a go-kart track in the rear of the building.
“We thought it was all neat until we got back there and found snakes in it,” Millican said. “I’m not afraid to be on fire at 300-miles per hour but I am deathly afraid of snakes. The pond got filled in after that.”
Now, with the snakes gone and the paint fresh, Millican and crew are ready to show off their handiwork, a bright new building called home filled with all the parts and pieces to make any drag racing fan salivate.
The open house begins today at 2:00pm and last until 5:30pm. The new shop is located on 214 Quinton Drive, Munford, TN 38058, north on Highway 51 located five miles past Millington, left on Watson Road, left on Quinton Drive in a quarter-mile.
A shuttle bus will be available starting at 1:30pm at racer pit entrance departing and returning every hour. Details are available at the MPE pit area.
